Yes—but compatibility depends on the game. The disc-equipped Xbox Series X plays most Xbox One games and selected Xbox 360 and Original Xbox games. For a supported disc game, insert the disc to download the game to the console, then leave the disc in the drive whenever you play. Xbox notes that features vary by game and a download is required.
Which Xbox game discs work on Series X?

These are compatibility rules for the disc-equipped Series X. The Xbox Series S is digital-only and cannot play physical discs, as Xbox explains.
How to install and play a supported disc game
- Insert the game disc into the Series X.
- Allow the console to download the game to its hard drive. The disc is used to start the installation; the game does not simply run from the old disc.
- Keep the disc in the drive to play. The console checks for the disc when you launch the installed game.
Xbox’s instructions for supported disc games are to insert the disc, download the game, and retain the disc for play. Specific features vary by game, and a download is required.
How to check whether a specific Xbox 360 or Original Xbox disc works
Look up the exact game title in Xbox’s current backward-compatibility catalog before relying on a legacy disc. Support is limited to selected titles, and a complete title list is not reproduced here. Do not assume that another game from the same generation—or even a related edition—will work just because one title is supported.

Original Xbox games have feature limitations
Supported Original Xbox games are the original games, not remasters. Xbox states that original Xbox Live online multiplayer and in-game marketplaces are unavailable, Xbox achievements are not provided for these games, and old saves do not transfer to Series X|S.
