What counts as an alternative to DMZ?
An extraction shooter sends you into a dangerous area to collect loot or complete objectives, then escape to keep what you earned. That basic loop covers very different games, from PvE co-op to PvPvE and hardcore simulations, so the best replacement depends on what you liked about DMZ: tense encounters with other players, missions, environmental danger, squad play, or the risk of losing a run.
Activision’s June 2026 description of the upcoming DMZ gives a useful comparison point: it combines story missions, dynamic operations, player encounters, weather, and progression between matches in the Hajin exclusion zone, with solo and squad deployment. That is a publisher description of a game that was still upcoming at the time, not a hands-on evaluation. In a June 7, 2026 interview with Xbox Wire, Studio Multiplayer Creative Director Joe Cecot put it this way: “We like to think of DMZ as an action extraction shooter.”

Best broad starting point: ARC Raiders
ARC Raiders is the clearest first recommendation if you want a modern extraction adventure without committing to a purely military simulation. Embark describes it as a multiplayer extraction adventure in which machines and other Raiders are threats. You can choose a character playstyle and play solo or with a squad; the official site lists PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
That mix gives it two kinds of danger—environmental enemies and competing players—while preserving the familiar choice between going alone and grouping up. Embark calls its setting an inviting take on the genre; treat that as the developer’s positioning, not independent proof that the game is easy or that every player will find it welcoming. For tactical missions and a PvE-first direction: Gray Zone Warfare
Gray Zone Warfare is a candidate for players more interested in tactical missions and an open-world structure with a PvE-first emphasis than in a fast, action-focused extraction loop. Its status needs particular attention: on October 1, 2026, the official site described Update 0.5 as an upcoming milestone that would move the game from pre-alpha to alpha.
That announcement does not establish that the update has since shipped, nor does it settle current availability or store terms. Check the official Gray Zone Warfare site and the live store listing for the latest status before deciding whether it is ready for you.

Other extraction games worth comparing
Escape from Tarkov, Hunt: Showdown 1896, Delta Force, and Arena Breakout are also genre candidates. A genre-discovery listing identifies them as options, but that alone is not enough to make reliable current claims about their modes, platforms, prices, or relative quality. Check each game’s publisher or platform-store listing before choosing.

Is the new DMZ already out?
No—not as of October 4, 2026. Xbox Wire and Activision Support announced October 23, 2026 as the launch date for the new Modern Warfare 4 DMZ. If you are choosing a game before then, you are looking for an alternative to the original DMZ experience or something to play while waiting.
