If there is no outage alert, troubleshoot according to the symptom: restart and update the game or device for crashes; test the network and router for disconnects. A failed extraction is harder to diagnose: official notes document two DMZ fixes from November 2022, but they do not establish a current bug or a way to recover lost gear.
Check service status before changing settings
Check the Call of Duty online services status and the service status for your console or platform. Activision says connection problems can occur while a service is impaired; if there is an alert, wait for service to be restored before changing router settings. If status appears normal, continue with the checks below. Activision’s connection guide covers Warzone broadly, so its network steps can help diagnose related symptoms but are not a DMZ-specific fix.
If DMZ freezes or crashes
Restart and check the device
- Quit and close the game, then relaunch it. Some freezes may also require a console reboot.
- Install available system updates on PlayStation or Xbox, and make sure the console has adequate ventilation.
- On Xbox, Activision also lists clearing the cache and resetting the alternate MAC address among its troubleshooting steps.
Activision’s Warzone crash and freeze guidance recommends these general steps. They may help with related game crashes, but do not establish a specific cause for a DMZ crash.
Check PC software and requirements
- Confirm your PC meets the published minimum requirements for Warzone.
- Close background applications before launching the game. Input-remapping programs, overlays, and recording software may interfere with gameplay or startup.
- Update the graphics driver and ensure the PC has good ventilation.
- If crashes persist, submit Activision’s PC Crash Report so the problem can be documented with diagnostic information.
If you keep disconnecting
Test the connection before changing router settings
- Run your platform’s network test. Activision’s guide includes PlayStation and Xbox menu paths; the Xbox multiplayer connection test can help identify issues involving lag or disconnects.
- Pause downloads, streaming, and other bandwidth-heavy activity while testing.
- Restart your router, then try the game again.
- If you play over Wi-Fi, test with wired Ethernet if practical. Activision says, “We strongly recommend using a wired Ethernet connection during online gameplay.” A basic Ethernet cable is an optional way to test a wired connection; it cannot fix an outage, game bug, or crash.
These steps follow Activision’s Warzone connection troubleshooting guide. If home-network checks do not help, Activision recommends contacting your internet service provider.

Test router features one at a time
Only move on to router configuration if simpler checks have not helped and you are comfortable changing the settings. Activision presents UPnP and port forwarding as alternatives, not features to enable together:
- Test UPnP with port forwarding turned off.
- If that does not help, turn UPnP off and test port forwarding with a static console IP.
- Activision describes placing a console in the router’s DMZ as a test, not a permanent setup. When finished, remove the console’s static IP from DMZ.
Change one setting at a time and test the game after each change, so you can identify whether it made a difference. The guide’s DMZ instruction is for a console; it is not a recommendation to put a PC in a router DMZ.

What a failed extraction does—and does not—tell you
Infinity Ward’s Season 01 launch notes dated November 22, 2022 recorded a fix for a DMZ “Failed to Connect to Datacenters” error while extracting, as well as a crash triggered by parachute deployment. Those are historical fixes; they do not show that either issue is active now or that a particular setting prevents a failed extraction.
The Warzone Known Issues page, dated September 25, 2026, describes issues identified or reported for investigation or scheduled fixes and points to bug reporting and PC crash reporting. Its entries do not settle DMZ’s present service status or reconnect rules. The available official information does not establish whether a player can reconnect after a DMZ crash and recover an extraction, so do not assume lost gear can be restored.
