Throne and Liberty briefly ranked fourth among Steam’s most-played games during its October 1, 2024 global launch, even as players encountered login and connection problems. The figure describes a temporary Steam ranking—not a cross-platform position—and is separate from NCSOFT’s report of more than 3 million global players in the first week.
When did Throne and Liberty launch?
NCSOFT set the global free-to-play launch for October 1, 2024. Early access began September 26 for holders of eligible Early Access Packs. The launch announcement listed PC via Steam, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series S|X in North and South America, the United Kingdom, Europe, Australia, and Japan. NCSOFT’s first-week announcement described the launch region as North, Central, and South America, Europe, Oceania, and Japan. These are launch-era availability details, not confirmation of current regional service.
NCSOFT’s open-beta announcement also reported more than 60,000 concurrent players on the first day of the July 2024 beta, attributing that figure to SteamDB. That beta number is separate from the October launch figures.
What does “#4 on Steam” mean?
GameSpot reported that Throne and Liberty reached 326,377 concurrent players on launch day and was briefly Steam’s fourth most-played game. That was a momentary ranking during a launch-day surge, not a lasting chart position or a rank across Steam, PlayStation, and Xbox combined. GameSpot’s October 2, 2024 report provides the contemporaneous context.

How many people played?
The launch coverage includes several different measures. Concurrent-player figures count people playing at the same time; a cumulative player total covers people who played over a period. These numbers are not interchangeable.

The figures differ by source and reporting context. The 333,393 value from Steam Charts is Steam-only tracking; it does not count console players. NCSOFT’s 336,300 figure is its own retrospective report, not a reason to silently replace the tracker’s value. Likewise, the publisher’s first-week total of more than 3 million global players is not a concurrent peak. NCSOFT’s first-week figures appear in its launch-week announcement; the later peak was included in its 2024 year-in-review.

What server problems did players face?
In an October 3, 2024 community letter, Amazon Games acknowledged launch-week disconnections, black screens during loading, gate-server trouble, and login loops. The company said login volume overwhelmed Gate Servers and that World Servers, World DBs, and backend services had also encountered resource constraints. Amazon Games described adding gate and backend servers as mitigation, while noting that some problems were not fully resolved at the time.
