What did Game Science announce at Gamescom?
Game Science revealed Black Myth: Zhong Kui with a teaser trailer during Gamescom Opening Night Live on August 19, 2025. The studio called it the second entry in the Black Myth series and described it as a single-player action role-playing game inspired by Zhong Kui, a figure from Chinese folklore. GameSpot’s report from the announcement also covered the reveal.
At the time, Game Science said the project was early in development and that the teaser did not contain in-game footage. The title has since had an official gameplay trailer, but that footage comes with an important qualification.
What is Black Myth: Zhong Kui about?
The game is a single-player action RPG rooted in ancient Chinese mythology and folklore. Zhong Kui—the folk figure named in the title—is its primary creative inspiration. Game Science has not provided further confirmed story details on its official game page, so specific plot points or character roles should not be treated as established.

Yes. Game Science’s official page lists a 15-minute gameplay trailer dated August 20, 2026. Treat what appears in the trailer as a look at work in progress, not a guarantee that every shown feature or detail will ship unchanged.
When will Black Myth: Zhong Kui release?
There is no firm release date or release window announced. Game Science’s official FAQ answers the timing question: “As soon as we can! But first, the game has to be good enough to impress even our seasoned, seen-it-all colleagues.” That is not a date or a launch commitment.
