Hades II centers on Melinoë, the immortal Princess of the Underworld, as she fights Chronos, the Titan of Time. Its characters are more than a list of Greek gods: some teach Melinoë, some grant combat boons, and others appear as allies or obstacles along the Underworld and Surface routes. This guide maps the key characters and explains where they fit, without treating a representative cast as a complete roster.
Who is Melinoë in Hades II?
Melinoë is the playable lead: an immortal witch and sorceress with magical abilities and shadowy weapons. Supergiant Games describes her as the Princess of the Underworld and says she is based on an ancient Underworld deity thought to be related to Hades. Her brother is Zagreus, protagonist of the first Hades.
Supergiant’s Hades II FAQ calls her “an immortal witch and sorceress with powerful magical abilities, deadly skill with a variety of shadowy weapons, and a score to settle.” Her mission is to confront Chronos, the Titan of Time, who is the story’s central threat.
How the gods and characters fit into the game
The cast supports both the story and the run-based combat. Nintendo describes the game as having dozens of fully voiced characters and more than a dozen Olympian gods who can grant boons. Those figures are not an exact roster count, and “Olympian” should not be used as a catch-all for every divine or mythological character.

Supergiant’s game overview explains that the studio retells classical myth from a new point of view, aiming for its spirit rather than reproducing it as a reference work. Game relationships and events should therefore be read as this game’s interpretation, not as a definitive account of ancient myth.
Crossroads mentors and allies
Hecate
Hecate is a central figure in Melinoë’s witchcraft and the Crossroads framing. Supergiant describes her as a secretive goddess of magic, witchcraft, and the crossroads, with a significant role in classical mythology around Hades and the Underworld. In the game’s cast, she is a mentor and guide rather than simply another boon source.

Other Crossroads relationships
The Crossroads is the hub for Melinoë’s preparations and character interactions. Supergiant’s release notes say the full release includes many character events, while its earlier Unseen Update announcement described optional story events for forging bonds with characters. Those announcements establish the importance of relationships, but do not amount to a complete list of every character or every interaction.
Which gods grant boons?
The Olympians are the most prominent divine encounters for combat: their boons influence how Melinoë fights during a run. Nintendo’s product description says more than a dozen Olympian gods can grant boons. The following are representative names identified by an independent encounter guide, not a publisher-confirmed exhaustive list.

Ares was specifically introduced in Supergiant’s Warsong Update announcement on February 19, 2025, which described his boons. That is development history; the released game’s baseline is v1.0.
Friendly encounters on the Underworld route
Several notable characters appear as encounters or allies rather than as the Olympian boon-givers listed above. An independent encounter guide names Arachne, Narcissus, and Echo among Underworld-route figures. They provide a sense of the route’s mythic cast, but this is not a complete or guaranteed encounter list, and an individual run need not present every character.

Friendly encounters on the Surface route
The Surface route also has its own recognizable figures. The independent guide names Icarus and Heracles among its encounters, alongside divine characters including Athena and Dionysus. These names are useful orientation points, not a claim that every listed figure has the same gameplay function or is an Olympian boon-giver.

Hades is among the returning figures identified in the encounter guide, and Zagreus remains important to the family context as Melinoë’s brother and the first game’s protagonist. The official v1.0 announcement confirms that the full release contains the true ending and many new events for its voiced cast, but does not disclose story outcomes. Late-game relationships and revelations are best approached as spoilers; this guide does not presume details beyond those stated by the sources.

Antagonists and the central conflict
Chronos
Chronos, the Titan of Time, is the principal antagonist and the target of Melinoë’s struggle. The conflict gives the cast its basic shape: Melinoë’s allies help her prepare and persist, while the Titan’s forces stand between her and her goal.
How complete is this Hades 2 character list?
This is a guide to key characters and representative encounters, not a full character compendium. Nintendo gives the scale of the voiced cast and boon pantheon; Supergiant establishes the premise, Hecate’s role, and release context; an independent encounter guide supplies route-associated names. The official pages do not publish a complete named roster with every relationship and encounter condition.
