Yes—MSI says Xbox Full Screen Experience (FSE) uses over 5% less RAM than the traditional Windows desktop on supported MSI Claw handhelds. The company attributes the reduction to fewer background processes loading at startup. MSI has not published the test conditions or absolute memory readings behind that figure, so it should be treated as MSI’s claim, not an independently verified result for every Claw.
What MSI’s memory claim does—and doesn’t—show
In its November 24, 2025 announcement, MSI said FSE “consumes over 5% less RAM than the traditional Windows desktop.” MSI linked the reduction to freeing memory for games and said that could mean smoother gameplay and potentially higher frame rates. The word “potentially” matters: a percentage reduction in RAM does not predict a particular FPS increase.
MSI’s setup guide explains that FSE uses less RAM because fewer background processes load at startup. The company says it benchmarked three MSI Claw configurations and observed smoother frame rates and improved consistency in Cyberpunk 2077. However, the accessible guide provides neither numerical benchmark results nor the test methodology. The published material therefore does not establish how much RAM was used in absolute terms, or how repeatable the comparison is across Claw models and settings.
FSE changes the handheld’s interface and startup experience; it does not add physical memory to the device. MSI’s announcement describes a console-style interface that brings games from Xbox Game Pass, Steam, Battle.net, Epic Games and other launchers into an aggregated library. MSI’s announcement lists support for the Claw A1M, Claw 7 AI+, Claw 8 AI+, Claw A8 and Claw 8 AI+ Polar Tempest Edition.

Does lower RAM use mean higher FPS?
Not necessarily. RAM use and game performance are related only under particular conditions; the memory percentage alone cannot show whether a game will gain frames. Results also depend on factors such as the Claw model and memory configuration, Windows and BIOS versions, background apps, game, resolution, graphics settings and power mode.
MSI reports smoother frame rates and better consistency in Cyberpunk 2077 across three Claw configurations, but does not publish the figures needed to quantify that result. Independent reporting on other hardware offers useful context, not a substitute for an MSI Claw test. Windows Central’s Xbox Ally X review said FSE freed RAM without a large material impact on game performance in that review. A June 17, 2026 TechRadar report summarized Linus Tech Tips testing on two PCs with matching specifications: memory use was lower in Xbox mode, while Forza Horizon 5, Cyberpunk 2077 and Doom: The Dark Ages had the same or negligible frame-rate differences under the reported conditions. Those tests were not on MSI Claw handhelds, and the report cautioned that results can vary by system and test.

How to enable FSE on an MSI Claw
MSI’s setup guide gives version-specific update requirements and setup steps. Because firmware and software requirements can change, check the current instructions for your exact Claw model before applying them.
Update the required software
- Update Windows, the BIOS and MSI Center M.
- Update the Xbox app and Game Bar.
- The guide lists Intel BIOS versions ending in 10F, AMD BIOS versions ending in 105, and MSI Center M version 2.0.51031.0 or newer. Treat these as the guide’s stated versions, not a guarantee that they are the latest for your device.
Select Xbox as the home app
- Open Settings > Gaming > Full Screen Experience.
- Select Xbox as the home app and enable the option to start into FSE.
- Restart the Claw.
MSI says the MSI Center M prompt can open the Windows setting directly, or you can navigate to it manually. For switching modes, the guide says to hold the Quick Settings button to switch apps. To return to Desktop mode, choose the Desktop tab; to enter FSE again, use the Xbox app.
