Gnoster, Wisdom of Night—the Sentient Pest—is a Night Lord in Elden Ring Nightreign. Use fire against both parts of the boss, split your party’s attention while the moth and scorpion fight separately, and regroup when they combine below 50% HP. During the combined charge, the targeted player should run and angle away while teammates attack from behind.
Prepare with fire and complementary roles
Both the airborne moth and the ground-based scorpion are weak to fire, according to [Mobalytics](https://mobalytics.gg/elden-ring-nightreign/guides/night-lords/sentient-pest) and PC Gamer. Bring a fire weapon or spell if you have one, and consider in-run options for adding fire damage.
The moth spends much of the fight airborne, so ranged attacks can keep pressure on it. A durable melee player can draw the scorpion’s attention while the others focus on the moth. Mobalytics suggests Ironeye, Recluse, Revenant, or Duchess for ranged roles, and Guardian or Raider as durable frontliners. These are role-based suggestions, not a controlled ranking of Nightfarers; adjust assignments when the pair combines.
Handle the moth’s projectiles and poison
The moth sends waves of magic projectiles and drops a poison cloud. Run or dodge through the projectile waves. For its powered-up falling projectile pattern, Mobalytics recommends staying directly beneath the moth or moving well away rather than lingering in the attack’s path.

The poison mist can inflict a parasite that damages and immobilizes its target. If a teammate is caught, attack the affected player to dispel the parasite, as Mobalytics advises. Treat this as an immediate team response: the immobilized player cannot reliably escape follow-up attacks alone.
Use the scorpion’s openings
The scorpion attacks with leg slams, broad strikes in front, and claw lunges that can arrive in multi-hit strings. Avoid standing in front of it when possible and punish its recovery windows.

When the scorpion turns white, it is invulnerable to direct attacks. Shift damage to the moth rather than wasting attacks on the scorpion during that tell.
Change tactics when the bodies combine
Mobalytics reports that the standard fight’s transition happens below 50% HP. The moth mounts the scorpion, and their attacks begin to overlap; the combined phase adds light beams and a charge.

Evade the opening charge
At the start of the combined phase, the charge targets a player. If it targets you, sprint away and angle to either side. The other players can move behind the scorpion to attack while it commits to the charge. It ends with a ground explosion in front of the pair, so do not turn back toward that area too soon.
Keep moving through the light beams
When the moth flashes white before its beam attack, keep moving. Mobalytics notes that the final beam can hit multiple times; do not assume the first strike is the only danger or stop moving as soon as it passes.

Everdark Sovereign: version-specific mechanics
The Everdark Sovereign version has distinct mechanics and should not be confused with the standard encounter. Mobalytics describes it as beginning with the moth mounted on the scorpion and opening with a combined charge. After the first health bar, Animus appears, restores the other bodies, and introduces separate health bars along with possession and revival mechanics. The encounter ends when Animus’s health is depleted.
These mechanics describe the Sovereign version; Bandai Namco’s official Nightreign page does not verify its current rotation or availability, so do not assume the encounter is active now.
