What do you need to run a PS5 emulator on PC?
KytyPS5’s published baseline is a 64-bit x86 processor, a GPU that supports Vulkan 1.3, current graphics drivers, and one of these operating systems: Windows 10 version 1803 or later, a current Linux distribution, or macOS on Apple Silicon. The project describes macOS as experimental; its x86-64 build runs through Rosetta 2 and uses Vulkan via MoltenVK. - Windows: Windows 10 version 1803 or later, 64-bit x86 CPU, Vulkan 1.3-capable GPU, and current drivers.
- Linux: A current distribution, 64-bit x86 CPU, Vulkan 1.3-capable GPU, and current drivers.
- macOS: Apple Silicon with Rosetta 2; support is experimental, not equivalent to the primary Windows and Linux targets.
These are capability requirements, not a promise of a particular frame rate or that a given game will run well. The official setup material does not establish a universal performance figure or a dated aggregate count of compatible games.
Check whether your game is compatible
Before downloading anything, open the official KytyPS5 project page and consult its compatibility information for the exact game. Note the emulator build associated with the result: compatibility, stability, and performance may change between versions. A game that boots may still have rendering problems, crash, or fail to progress to completion. The project says it boots 2D titles and a selection of 3D titles, not that all games are playable.

Download and start KytyPS5
- Open the official repository: Visit github.com/KytyPS5/KytyPS5 and use its Releases section to find a prebuilt build for your operating system.
- Extract the release archive: Unpack it, then start the launcher included for your platform. The project’s CMake, Ninja, Clang or clang-cl, Qt 6 launcher, and platform-library dependencies apply to building from source; ordinary users can use a prebuilt release instead.
- Add your game folder in the launcher: In global settings, add the folder or folders you want KytyPS5 to scan. The launcher searches recursively for game directories containing
eboot.bin. - Select a detected game: Once scanning finds a valid game directory, choose it in the launcher to start emulation.
KytyPS5 also supports ZArchive dumps: if the archive root contains eboot.bin, the emulator can mount the archive read-only without extracting it.
Launch a game from the command line
If you prefer not to use the launcher, the project documents direct launch with a legally obtained game directory, ELF file, or ZArchive dump. Run the emulator executable with the game path:

kyty_emulator --game <path>
Replace <path> with the path to the supported game directory, ELF file, or .zar archive. The GUI scanner and command-line launch are two ways to point the emulator at game files; neither makes unsupported titles compatible.
Do you need PS5 firmware or extra modules?
KytyPS5’s maintainers state that “External low-level emulation modules are neither required nor planned.” Do not add firmware-dump steps from guides written for other emulators: those instructions do not describe KytyPS5’s setup. KytyPS5 does not distribute games or copyrighted system software; use only legally obtained game files. The project’s guidance does not amount to a jurisdiction-specific legal ruling. Troubleshoot crashes and graphics problems
- The game does not appear: Confirm the scanned game directory contains
eboot.bin, then add its parent folder in the launcher’s global settings or use the documented command-line path. - Rendering looks wrong: Update your GPU drivers and check whether the game’s compatibility entry reports issues for your emulator build.
- The emulator crashes or the game stops: Check the compatibility information for the exact title and build; booting is not proof of full playability.
- Reporting a bug: Include the KytyPS5 version and the complete log so the issue can be assessed in build context.
Do not confuse KytyPS5 with shadPS4
Despite the similar naming, shadPS4 is a PlayStation 4 emulator. Its quickstart instructions are not PS5 emulator installation steps and its requirements should not be substituted for KytyPS5’s. shadPS4 Quickstart Guide
