That delay is now in the past: the game launched in early access on PC on April 30, 2026. A full-release date has not been confirmed.
Why was Heroes of Might & Magic: Olden Era delayed?
In an October 9, 2025 report, PC Gamer said developer Unfrozen and publisher Hooded Horse had moved the planned early-access launch from later in 2025 to sometime in 2026. The developers wanted more time for testing, UI improvements and redesigning some units. The report described this as the game’s second delay. PC Gamer’s October 2025 report
The previous change came in June 2025, when the launch shifted from its original second-quarter 2025 target to later that year. At the time, the team said it wanted to give the game “the care it deserves,” according to PC Gamer. The October announcement then pushed the target into 2026.
When did Olden Era come out?
Olden Era entered early access on PC on April 30, 2026. Unfrozen announced the date on April 1, and Steam records April 30 as the release date. That date is for early access, not the completed 1.0 release. Unfrozen’s August 2024 FAQ said full-release timing would be announced later, and Steam’s current description frames the early-access version as a work in progress. Steam says the team plans to remain in early access for a year, but explicitly notes that the plan could change with development and player feedback. What was included in early access?
Steam describes the early-access game as including six factions, three game modes, single-player and multiplayer, the opening act of the narrative campaign, a map editor and standalone scenarios. The game is an official prequel to the Heroes of Might & Magic series, returning to Enroth with gameplay inspired by Heroes of Might & Magic II and III. The story is set on Jadame, where a new demonic power threatens the continent. Steam listing · Unfrozen FAQ
Early access means the game is not presented as complete: Steam cautions that features and content may change as development continues. The developers say they use the period to expand and improve the game, including by considering player ideas.

In a May 28, 2026 roadmap, Ubisoft described planned work including team play, hero-skill rebalancing, improvements to the random map generator and map editor, observer mode, matchmaking improvements, underground terrain, an Ironman campaign mode, completion of the single-player campaign, map sharing and a new PvE mode. These were roadmap intentions at the time of the post, not guaranteed delivery dates; Ubisoft said plans could change as the game evolved. Ubisoft’s May 2026 roadmap

Ubisoft also reported that the game sold 250,000 copies in its first 24 hours and more than one million in its first month. Those are publisher-reported sales milestones, not an explanation for the delay.
