Check the item’s sewn-in label, tag, packaging, or official product listing first, then follow those instructions. If you cannot identify the materials or find care directions, avoid washing or applying cleaners until you can get guidance from the manufacturer or seller.
Start with the item’s own care instructions
Pokémon merchandise includes clothing, plush, accessories, and other kinds of products, so materials and construction can differ even between items that look similar. The official Pokémon merchandise catalog and Pokémon Parents merchandise guide show the breadth of those categories, not one universal cleaning method.
- Look for a sewn-in care label, hangtag, packaging insert, or care section on the official product page.
- Check for restrictions such as hand wash, surface clean only, or warnings about particular parts or finishes.
- Follow the directions for that exact item. If instructions are missing or unclear, contact the manufacturer or seller before using water or cleaning products.
Pokémon Support notes that many official products are supported by their manufacturers rather than The Pokémon Company International. Its product support guidance can help you identify where to ask when the care information is unavailable.
How do I clean a Pokémon shirt or other apparel?
Use the garment’s sewn-in care label. Pokémon apparel includes different products and materials, and the official merchandise information does not establish a common wash temperature, cycle, detergent, ironing method, or dryer setting for all of them. Do not assume that a shirt, hoodie, bag, or accessory can be treated like another Pokémon item.

If the label is missing, look for the product’s official listing or contact its manufacturer or seller. Avoid a guessed wash or heat setting, particularly when the garment has printed decoration or other details whose care requirements you cannot confirm.
How do I wash a Pokémon plush?
Check the plush’s tag and exact product listing before cleaning it. Some specific Pokémon plush are explicitly described as hand washable, but that does not make hand washing safe for every plush. Construction can vary, and an item with electronic parts, weighted filling, adhesives, delicate details, or surface-clean-only directions should not be immersed unless its own instructions permit it.

Follow the listed method for that plush
For example, the US Pokémon Center listing for Jigglypuff Pokémon Comfy Cuddlers Plush says: “Gently hand wash the plush in warm water, then pat it down with a towel before hanging it up to dry.” This is guidance for that product, not a general rule for Pokémon plush.
Pokémon Japan has also announced particular hand-washable plush lines. Its July 15, 2022 announcement described six plush, while its July 12, 2024 announcement described seven additional plush and advised drying them well after washing. The 2022 announcement mentioned planned sales on Amazon.co.jp at that time; it does not establish current stock or availability.

If you are shopping for a plush
Check the product’s care directions before buying if washability matters to you. A washable designation applies to the specific product described, not automatically to other plush from the same character or collection.

Identify the item’s materials and look for its own packaging or product instructions before cleaning or choosing storage. The official merchandise pages cover a broad range, but do not set a universal care standard for figures, cards, pins, textiles, or other collectibles. Instructions for one kind of collectible should not be assumed to apply to another.

If instructions are unavailable, preserve any label or packaging guidance and avoid liquids or abrasive cleaning on uncertain materials. For a suitable hard surface, gentle dry dusting is a conservative option, not a Pokémon-specific care instruction. Do not apply cleaners or moisture unless you know they are appropriate for the item’s materials and finish.
