In the U.S., Nintendo Switch 2’s MSRP is $499.99 as of September 1, 2026; the final target will be higher if you add games, tax, or extras. Bundles and sales can help, but only when their contents fit your plan.
Set a target that fits your budget
Choose the purchases first
Write down the console you want and two or three games you would genuinely buy first. Decide on a maximum total before comparing offers. Start with the current console price, then add the checkout prices of those games, applicable tax, and only an online membership or accessory your household actually needs.
Nintendo raised the U.S. Switch 2 MSRP from $449.99 to $499.99 effective September 1, 2026. Nintendo said the original Switch family’s pricing was not changing in that announcement. Turn the target into a savings schedule
Subtract any amount you have already set aside from your cap, then divide the remainder by the number of pay periods or months before you hope to buy. The result is a savings target, not a reason to borrow or take money from essentials. If that amount is not workable, extend the timeline, reduce the game list, or choose a lower-cost option rather than stretching your budget.

Compare bundles with the games you actually want
Compare the total checkout cost of a standalone console plus your planned games against bundle prices. Count an included game as a saving only if it replaces a game you intended to buy; an advertised saving is not the same as value to you if the bundle adds something you would otherwise skip.

Recheck offer dates, stock, participating retailers, and checkout totals before buying. Taxes, delivery charges, and retailer pricing can affect which option actually costs less.

Compare game formats and look for sales
Check the exact game’s checkout price
Digital is not automatically cheaper. Nintendo says new Nintendo-published digital titles exclusive to Switch 2 have different MSRPs from physical versions beginning with May 2026 preorders, while retailers set their own prices and prices vary by title. Compare the physical and digital checkout prices for the specific game, including shipping where relevant. Consider resale value only if you realistically plan to resell a physical copy. Use sales or refurbished stock selectively
Nintendo Support says Nintendo Store often has sales on digital software and refurbished physical games and hardware at lower prices than new. Check the condition, return terms, shipping, and final cost before choosing refurbished. Keep a shortlist and wait for a sale on games that are not urgent. Do not add an unplanned game just to qualify for free shipping or a discount threshold unless it was already on your list and the total remains lower.
Keep optional extras out of the essentials budget
Do not treat storage, accessories, or an online membership as mandatory without a specific need. For example, Nintendo Store lists a Samsung 256GB microSD Express Card for Switch 2 at $59.99, but that is an optional purchase, not a required part of every console budget. If a bundle includes a membership, decide whether you want the service after the included term. Mark the renewal date and cancel before renewal if you do not want the continuing subscription; the Switch Sports Resort bundle’s three-month membership auto-renews unless canceled.

- Does the console and every included game match your planned purchases?
- What is the total checkout cost after tax, delivery, and any fees?
- For the exact game, is physical or digital cheaper at the prices available to you?
- For refurbished items, are the condition and return terms acceptable?
- Does an included membership renew, and do you want it after the trial or included term?
- Does the purchase stay under your cap without borrowing or cutting into essential expenses?
