There is no guaranteed best route through an Elden Ring Nightreign expedition: Limveld’s broad layout is fairly stable, but its loot, enemies and bosses change between sessions. Start by checking the map and the Night’s Tide, then choose a short chain of nearby stops that answers your team’s current needs. Use landmarks as a framework, not a fixed itinerary.
Where should I go first in Nightreign?
At deployment, check your starting position, the map’s location information and the safe area relative to the approaching Night’s Tide. Decide what would most help the party before the night boss, then head for a nearby objective that can provide it. Every visible point is not a required stop: time for preparation is limited, so a long detour can cost more than an uncertain reward is worth.

Bandai Namco’s official gameplay guide puts the route problem plainly: “While the layout stays more or less the same, the loot/drops, enemies, bosses, all shift and change with each session you embark on.” Let familiar landmarks orient you, but choose destinations from what the current map shows.
What is the best route in Nightreign?
The best route is the one that meets a current need without pulling the team away from safety or spending too much time crossing the map. Compare candidate stops by reward, distance and terrain, the Night’s Tide’s position, party capability, and whether the current mode or a Shifting Earth condition has changed the geography. Official guidance describes reward types and map considerations, but does not assign locations a universal numeric value or establish a guaranteed order.

How do I avoid the Night’s Tide?
Use the map’s safe-area information to judge whether a destination and the path to it remain practical as the Night’s Tide advances. Keep the route compact rather than trying to clear every marked location. Recheck the map when circumstances change; a stop that was reasonable at the start may no longer justify its distance or risk later in the day.
The available official guidance establishes that time is limited and preparation must be made before the night boss, but it does not provide a universal route duration or a fixed timing schedule for every run. Base decisions on the current map and situation rather than an assumed minute-by-minute plan.

What do the map icons mean?
Open the map and inspect its location information rather than guessing from an icon alone. The official guide gives examples of map clues for likely weapon or item locations, merchants, churches, scarabs or treasure, and location information. These help identify possible objectives; they do not guarantee that a specific drop or encounter will be present in every session.

For route planning, read the marker together with its location attributes and position relative to the safe area. The map helps answer both what might be there and whether it makes sense to go there now.
How can movement tools make a route safer or faster?
Terrain shortcuts can connect objectives that look distant or separated by elevation. Use the movement option that fits the obstacle:

Check the terrain between stops before committing. A direct line on the map may not be the most practical route on the ground; movement tools can open shortcuts, but the Night’s Tide and the party’s ability still matter.

Place a map pin on the next destination or regroup point. Pins appear as columns of light in the field and on allies’ compasses, giving a separated team a visible shared target. Defeated enemies’ runes are shared among all players regardless of distance, so the party can split briefly to cover nearby objectives without losing that rune benefit. A pin still matters: it makes clear where everyone should head next.
What changes when Shifting Earth is active?
Shifting Earth can change Limveld’s geography and add points of interest under certain conditions, so a familiar base-map route may not apply. Check the current map instead of relying on remembered positions. Official patch notes also document adjustments to Shifting Earth appearance rates in Deep of Night; the available official material does not establish a complete current rotation or an exact route for every form.
