The available sources do not establish one optimal secondary, support weapon, stratagem set, faction matchup, or difficulty threshold for the CB-9. Choose those options around the threats and roles your squad needs to cover rather than relying on an unsupported “best build.”

The latest official notes reviewed for this guide are Arrowhead’s Devoid of Liberty: 7.1.0, dated October 4, 2026. They do not mention the CB-9, so they do not announce a crossbow change. That is limited to the notes reviewed; it does not rule out undocumented changes or a later update. Is the CB-9 worth equipping?
Consider it if you want a ranged explosive role and are willing to adapt your aim to a projectile arc. It is a less straightforward fit if you expect a fast, point-and-fire response when enemies are close; cover that need elsewhere in the loadout.
