When Genshin Impact Version 5.1 launched, HoYoverse said some content lacked English voice-over because of “recording arrangements.” Players reported silent dialogue for Kachina, Kinich, and Ajaw during the Archon Quest, but HoYoverse did not publish an exhaustive list of affected characters. Contemporary coverage discussed the SAG-AFTRA strike as a possible explanation, not a confirmed cause.
What HoYoverse confirmed at Version 5.1’s launch
HoYoverse’s Version 5.1 notes, reproduced in GameSpot’s October 10, 2024 report, said: “Due to recording arrangements, some content in Version 5.1 does not have English voice-overs.” The notice added, “We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused.”
The statement confirms a gap in English voice-over for some content. It does not identify every affected scene, line, or character, and it should not be read as a claim about other language versions.
Which characters players reported as silent
In an October 11, 2024 HoYoLAB post, a player said Kachina, Kinich, and Ajaw did not speak during the Archon Quest, even though their dialogue appeared as text. That is a specific player’s account, not an official or complete character list.

Neither the official note nor the cited player report gives a count of missing lines or establishes how widespread the issue was. The available evidence supports naming these three as reported examples, not presenting them as the only affected characters.
Was the SAG-AFTRA strike the cause?
GameSpot discussed the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike as a possible context for the missing English performances, while noting that a direct connection had not been confirmed. HoYoverse’s stated explanation was “recording arrangements”; its Version 5.1 note did not attribute the gap to the strike.

It is therefore accurate to say the strike was raised in contemporary coverage as a possible explanation. It is not established that the strike caused every missing line—or that it was the confirmed cause of the 5.1 gap.
