The biggest change in Rutherford’s Engadget hands-on is that Wuhu Island is more than a backdrop. Players can explore the island and surrounding area, visiting points of interest by plane, skateboard, or power cruiser—the report describes the latter as a way to jetski. That gives the sports collection a sightseeing component between events.

Rutherford says bowling and tennis translated well to Joy-Con gestures in his session, and found boxing engaging. The report discusses motion-controlled interactions, but does not specify whether extra controllers or accessories are required.
How does the hands-on describe exploring Wuhu Island?
Rutherford calls the sightseeing “weirdly relaxing” and says the expanded setting makes the game feel more like a full-fledged game. He reports that after more than 15 minutes exploring by plane, board, and power cruiser, he felt he had only scratched the surface. That is a personal preview-session impression, not a measurement of map size or playtime.

What are the preview’s main reservations?
Rutherford’s main wish is for more depth in the vehicle activities. The plane, skateboard, and power cruiser seemed to him to have untapped potential; he wanted fuller races or time trials. His overall assessment is still positive: he sees the game as a fun collection of mini-games for players of different ages. Those are the author’s opinions based on a hands-on, not a final review or an independent test.
