PlayStation community creator RealRadec says he regained access to his account after it was taken over—and acknowledged that his public reach helped the case move quickly. The method used to compromise the account has not been established in the reporting, and the incident is not evidence that a particular PSN security measure was bypassed.
What RealRadec said happened
In a report updated Oct. 6, 2026, Push Square reported that RealRadec had said his PlayStation account was taken over and later posted that he had recovered it. He thanked people who offered assistance and recognized that his profile helped get the issue handled quickly.
As quoted by Push Square, Radec said: “It would be foolish of me not to acknowledge that this was dealt with as quickly as possible because of the position I’m in. Not many people have that reach, and I am fully aware of that.” He also said, “No one deserves to get their account stolen from them and lose access to all of their games, DLC, save data, Trophies, etc,” before concluding: “This needs to change.”
That is Radec’s account of the outcome and his own assessment of the role his reach played. The report does not establish how the takeover happened, independently verify a specific attack method, or provide an incident-specific statement from Sony. It therefore does not confirm phishing, stolen credentials, social engineering, or a bypass of two-step verification as the cause. Nor does it establish a broader takeover rate or a new Sony security change.

If you can’t access your PlayStation account
PlayStation’s US account recovery guidance directs locked-out users to online account recovery or the Online Assistant. The available route depends on what you can still access:
- You use a passkey or can access your account email: Start with the online recovery process and follow the prompts for your sign-in method.
- You lost access to the email linked to the account: Use the recovery guidance and Online Assistant route for that situation; you may need PlayStation Support to help.
- Your sign-in ID, online ID, or password changed without your permission: PlayStation directs users to contact the Online Assistant.
These are the routes in PlayStation’s US guidance; support options can differ by region. Contacting support is the company’s recommended escalation, not a guarantee of a particular recovery result.

After you regain access, secure the account
PlayStation’s compromised-account guidance recommends securing the linked email account and sign-in method, signing out of devices, deactivating consoles, and reviewing payment methods. If you still cannot change your sign-in method or access the account, PlayStation says to contact support as soon as possible.
- Secure the email account associated with PSN, since it is part of account recovery.
- Review and strengthen the account’s sign-in method.
- Sign out of devices and deactivate consoles as directed by PlayStation.
- Review saved payment methods and remove them if appropriate.
Passkeys and two-step verification: what this report does—and doesn’t—show
PlayStation’s passkey guidance lists support on PS5, PS4, the PlayStation website and app, and Remote Play for Mac, subject to the device and browser requirements on that page. It also warns that some hardware security keys may have issues and suggests using a passkey synced to a mobile device.

That guidance can help you choose a sign-in option supported by your devices, but it does not show which method Radec used or how his account was compromised. The report does not answer whether an attacker bypassed two-step verification in this case, and it offers no basis for ranking passkeys and other sign-in approaches by protection against this incident.
