What it is
Fatal Frame: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse is a Japanese survival horror game developed by Grasshopper Manufacture. First released in Japan in 2008, it follows girls who return as teenagers to Rogetsu Isle after disappearing during a festival as children and losing their memories. They explore the island to uncover what happened in their past, moving through dimly lit mansions and abandoned hospitals while ghosts attack. The Camera Obscura is central to both survival and investigation: players use its viewfinder to photograph ghosts, damage them and seal away their power. Its special abilities also reveal keys that help the girls find routes into new areas. The game is single-player, and Steam lists achievements, partial controller support, Steam Cloud and Family Sharing. Windows is its listed Steam platform; the broader platform list also names Wii and Xbox Series X|S. The 2023 release is a remastered return with upgraded graphics.
