What it is

Future Knight is a platform game originally released in 1986, in which Sir Randolph sets out to rescue Amelia from Spegbott the Terrible. The route moves through twenty levels, beginning aboard a damaged space cruiser and continuing to the planet’s surface and Spegbott’s castle. Enemies include security droids and mystical creatures, with the Henchodroid guarding Amelia. This remastered emulated edition contains the ZX Spectrum and Amstrad CPC versions. It adds the ability to save or load at any point, support for most modern controllers, control remapping, and image scaling and smoothing options. The Steam listing includes single-player, partial controller support and Steam Cloud. The game is listed across several platforms, including Windows, ZX Spectrum, Commodore 64, Amstrad CPC, MSX and Commodore 16; Steam lists Windows. Pixel Games UK is the publisher, and the Steam release date is September 8, 2022.

What players like, and what they don't

  • Twenty levels across a space cruiser and planet.
  • Includes ZX Spectrum and Amstrad CPC versions.
  • Save or load at any point.
  • Offers control remapping and image options.
  • Steam lists Windows only.
  • Controller support is partial on Steam.

Who it suits

It suits players looking for a retro platform game with two included computer versions and modern save and control options. Its single-player format is aimed at solo play.

Future Knight brings its 1986 platforming adventure back as an emulated edition with two versions and adjustable controls. The modern save option is useful for a game described as fiendishly difficult.
