What it is

Galaga is Namco's 1981 shoot 'em up, built around moving a fighter left and right to destroy incoming alien formations. Clearing all enemies advances the player to the next stage. A captured fighter can be recovered and joined with the current ship to form a Dual Fighter, adding a higher-risk way to attack. Challenging Stages appear after every few levels and reward accurate play with the chance to aim for a perfect score. This Steam edition offers settings for scanlines and sound, plus the option to switch between old and new versions. It is a single-player game with Steam Achievements, Steam Leaderboards, and Family Sharing. Galaga has appeared on platforms including MSX, SG-1000, Atari 7800, Famicom Disk System, NES, and Commodore 64; the Steam release is for Windows.

  • Steam lists Windows as its platform.

Who it suits

Galaga suits players who want a focused single-player shooter with successive alien waves and score-focused challenge stages. It may also interest players who want to adjust presentation settings or switch versions.

Galaga keeps its play centered on movement, alien waves, and scoring. The Steam edition adds presentation options and leaderboards without changing that core focus.
