What it is

Jack the Nipper is a single-player action-adventure about a mischievous toddler making trouble around town. Developed by Gremlin Interactive and originally released in 1986, it has Jack jump on objects, pick up items and place them where they will cause the most nuisance. Players use a range of objects to increase his naughtiness while avoiding enemies roaming the screens. This remastered emulated version includes both the ZX Spectrum and Amstrad CPC versions. Its modern options include saving and loading at any point, support for most modern game controllers, control remapping, and image scaling and smoothing. The Steam release is for Windows and lists partial controller support and Family Sharing. The game is also listed for ZX Spectrum, Commodore 64, Amstrad CPC and MSX. Its genres include puzzle, adventure, platformer and action, making its town exploration and object-based mischief the central draw.

Who it suits

It suits players looking for a single-player retro platform adventure built around exploration, item use and comic mischief. The emulated versions may appeal to those interested in ZX Spectrum or Amstrad CPC releases.

Jack the Nipper pairs its town-based mischief with exploration, object use and roaming enemies. The remastered emulated edition adds flexible saving and display options while retaining its two included home-computer versions.
