What it is
Opus Magnum is an open-ended puzzle game about designing machines for alchemical processes. Players build a transmutation engine with components such as programmable arms and customizable tracks to produce items including remedies, gemstones, and weapons. Challenges invite different solutions, with competition focused on simplicity, speed, and compactness. The game also includes a puzzle editor and Steam Workshop integration for creating and sharing puzzles; selected user puzzles appear in the Journal of Alchemical Engineering. Its story follows alchemist Anataeus Vaya after he takes a position as Head Alchemist of House Van Tassen, where intrigue complicates his work. Players can export animated GIFs of their machine designs. Opus Magnum is single-player and supports Windows, macOS, and Linux. Steam features include Achievements, Workshop, Cloud, Leaderboards, level editing, and Family Sharing. Zachtronics is both developer and publisher.
