What it is
Subnautica is a single-player underwater survival adventure by Unknown Worlds Entertainment. Released on Windows and macOS in 2018, it strands players on an alien ocean world and asks them to find food and water, gather resources and craft equipment to explore further. The ocean stretches from shallow coral reefs to deep trenches, lava fields and glowing underwater rivers, with wildlife that can help or threaten the player. Oxygen management matters during dives through kelp forests, reefs and cave systems. Players can make lights, diving gear, habitat modules and submersibles, then build seafloor bases to store resources, park vehicles and replenish oxygen. Bases need hull integrity managed as depth and pressure rise. Exploration also reveals signs of a mystery surrounding the crash, sea life and structures scattered through the world. Steam lists achievements, controller support, VR support, Steam Cloud and Remote Play on TV. Listed platforms include Windows, macOS and Xbox Series X|S.
