What it is
The Dig is a science-fiction adventure developed by Lucasfilm Games. NASA veteran Boston Low is joined by journalist Maggie Robbins and geologist Ludger Brink to divert an asteroid threatening Earth. After they examine it, a mechanism transforms the asteroid into a crystal-like spacecraft and carries them to Cocytus, a desolate planet with traces of an advanced civilization but no apparent inhabitants. The trio searches for answers about the planet, its former people, and why they were brought there, while Low tries to keep the team together. Returning to Earth means investigating both the planet’s surface and its underground tunnels. The game is a single-player adventure and supports Steam Cloud and Family Sharing. It is available for Windows and macOS on Steam; its broader platform listing also includes DOS and Classic Mac OS. LucasArts published the game, which has a Steam release date of July 8, 2009.
