What it is

Circinus Mod Manager is a free desktop application for arranging RimWorld mods before starting the game. Its HALO system places mods into eight phases based on their contents and explains each placement. Custom rules can override HALO, while conflicting rules are identified so sorting can finish after a conflict is removed. The manager checks missing dependencies, declared incompatibilities, misplaced definitions, duplicate mods, and texture collisions. Imports include ModsConfig.xml, save files, Steam collection links, RimSort exports, rentry pages, and clipboard contents. Workshop downloads use SteamCMD, with queued pausing when Steam slows down, retries for failures, and resumption after the app closes. Sorting can use local files while community databases remain disabled until enabled. Circinus checks updates at startup, asks before installing, rejects invalid signatures, and shows SHA-256 fingerprints. It supports Windows, Apple Silicon Macs, and Linux.

Good, and not so good

  • Eight-phase sorting explains mod placement
  • Custom rules and conflict detection
  • Checks dependencies and texture collisions
  • Imports several list formats
  • Verifies updates and download fingerprints
  • Intel Macs are unsupported
  • macOS build is not Apple-signed
  • Linux distribution uses a 64-bit AppImage
  • Community databases are off by default

Who it suits

It suits RimWorld players who need guided load-order sorting and pre-launch conflict checks. It also fits users importing existing mod lists or downloading Workshop content through SteamCMD.

Circinus Mod Manager combines structured RimWorld load ordering with import, validation, and download tools. Mac hardware and quarantine requirements are the main setup limitations.
