VGSources / Best Graphics Optimisers / GameShift
What it is
GameShift is free Windows software that detects game launches, applies system-level optimizations for each title, and restores recorded settings when the game exits. It finds games in Steam, Epic Games, GOG Galaxy, and Xbox/Game Pass directories, using a built-in database of over 80 executables. The project lists 19 built-in profiles, hardware-specific tuning, anti-cheat metadata, and per-game controls. Available optimizations include process priority, service and task suppression, memory management, timer resolution, power plans, CPU scheduling, network tuning, and GPU driver settings. Monitoring covers CPU, GPU, RAM, VRAM, and network telemetry, temperatures, DPC latency, session history, driver advisories, and frame-time benchmarking. GameShift says it stores original values in an atomic journal and verifies reversion. Automatic recovery after a crash or blue screen is still in development and disabled. It requires administrator privileges and 64-bit Windows 10 21H2 or later or Windows 11 22H2 or later, with 8 GB RAM minimum.
Good, and not so good
- Detects games across four PC libraries
- Provides per-game optimization controls
- Includes live hardware telemetry
- Records and verifies original settings
- Stores data locally without telemetry
- Crash and blue-screen recovery is not enabled
- Requires administrator privileges
- Windows-only support
Who it suits
GameShift suits Windows players who want per-game system tuning, launch detection, and session monitoring. It is aimed at users comfortable granting administrator privileges.
GameShift combines launch detection, configurable system tuning, and detailed session monitoring in a free Windows application. Its recovery safeguards cover normal exits, while crash recovery remains unfinished.
