What it is
GOG Galaxy is a free launcher and library app for Windows and macOS. It gathers PC and console games from connected platforms into one collection, including titles that are not installed, and records achievements, play time, and owned games. PC games from different platforms can be installed and launched, while filters, sorting, tags, visual customization, saved views, and editable metadata help organize the library. Friends lists, online status, activity, and cross-platform chat are also combined. Games can arrive through official or open-source community integrations, or be added manually. Library changes sync through the cloud, and offline mode is available. For GOG games, the client provides auto-updates, cloud saves, multiplayer, matchmaking, and rollbacks. Other platforms require their own clients for platform-specific functions. A free GOG account is required, and GOG says imported data is not shared and is removed when a platform disconnects.
Good, and not so good
- Free plan for Windows and macOS
- Imports installed and uninstalled games
- Cross-platform friends and chat
- Open-source community integrations
- Cloud-synced library changes and offline mode
- Requires a free GOG account
- Other clients needed for some platform features
- No subscription catalog
- Platform data imports depend on integrations
Who it suits
It fits players whose games and friends are spread across several launchers or platforms. It also suits users who want detailed library organization and cross-platform social tools.
GOG Galaxy centralizes libraries, social activity, and organization tools without a subscription price. Its broad platform view still depends on connected services and their installed clients for certain functions.
