What it is

RimSort is a free, GPL-3.0 community-managed mod manager and sorter for RimWorld. It automatically arranges mod lists using mod data, community rules, and Steam data. Lists can be imported, exported, saved, and appended, with warnings for missing dependencies and incompatibilities. SteamworksPy connects with the Steam client and can launch the game through the Steam API. Its Steam Browser downloads Workshop mods through SteamCMD or the Steam client, even without a Steam copy of RimWorld. RimSort also supports Git mods and databases, log sharing through 0x0.st, and mod-list sharing through Rentry.co. A todds DDS encoder offers three texture-optimization presets. Database tools can build, compare, merge, publish, and edit rules. Optional external metadata databases must be configured separately. It runs on Windows, macOS, and Linux Ubuntu builds. Steam installed through Snap is unsupported.

Good, and not so good

  • Automatic sorting from multiple rule sources
  • Warnings for missing dependencies and incompatibilities
  • Steam Workshop downloads through SteamCMD or Steam
  • Git, log-sharing, and list-sharing integrations
  • Three DDS texture optimization presets
  • Snap-installed Steam is unsupported
  • External metadata databases require separate configuration
  • Compiled Python releases may trigger antivirus detections
  • macOS signing has no free documented solution

Who it suits

It suits RimWorld players managing complex mod lists across Windows, macOS, or Linux Ubuntu. It is especially relevant to users who need Steam Workshop access, dependency warnings, database tools, or shared lists.

RimSort combines automated ordering, Steam integration, list management, and database utilities for RimWorld mod workflows. Linux users should avoid Snap Steam, and optional metadata databases are not bundled.
