What it is

Shed, also called Muxshed, is a self-hosted live production studio that ingests RTMP, SRT, or WebRTC, mixes video in a browser, and sends the result to multiple destinations. It supports YouTube, Twitch, Kick, Facebook, and custom RTMP or RTMPS endpoints at once. The browser switcher provides scenes, multi-layer compositing, cuts, and frame-accurate stinger transitions. Guests can join through a browser WebRTC invite link without an app or account. Image overlays, lower thirds, scheduled premieres, sequential playlists, and looping 24/7 channels are supported. Each instance can expose an unlisted HLS watch page with custom branding and an optional viewer password. Muxshed is an AGPL-3.0 open-source Rust binary using ffmpeg, deployable on Docker, Podman, Unraid, Proxmox, or Linux. Self-hosting costs nothing, with unlimited destinations and no per-channel fees. It works offline without accounts or telemetry.

Who it suits

Shed suits communities and stream operators who want to run their own browser-based production and delivery stack. It is especially relevant when offline operation, custom destinations, guest links, and self-hosting matter.

Shed combines browser switching, guest contribution, overlays, scheduling, and multi-destination output in a self-hosted package. Its free deployment has no per-channel fees, but setup requires the listed software components.
