In short
Calagopus: Calagopus gives a group administrator a free way to run and organize Docker-based game servers. Its support for Pterodactyl eggs, migration tooling, backups, schedules, access controls, and multi-node monitoring covers the practical jobs around a shared server. The main trade-off is operational responsibility. You must self-host, provide Linux for Wings nodes, and secure the host because containers share its kernel. The project is also younger and its Blueprint extension path is closed. For a homelab or hosting operator comfortable with those limits, Calagopus is a capable open-source panel without feature-gated plans.
Minepanel: Minepanel makes sense for a Minecraft host who wants Java and Bedrock under one self-managed dashboard and is comfortable operating Docker. It offers broad server software coverage, useful diagnostics, detailed monitoring, role-based access and several notification and storage choices. The main reservation is recovery: backups exist, but restoring one is not a one-click task. Hardware limits also determine how many servers you can run. Choose it when control and a free MIT-licensed tool matter more than managed hosting or hands-off maintenance.
