Its online features are leaderboards and challenges, while the game’s focus is a solo campaign built around stealth, spycraft, combat and driving. One earlier example, 007 Legends, was announced with local split-screen and online competitive modes—but that comparison applies to some Bond games, not the whole series.
Does 007 First Light have multiplayer?
No. IO Interactive’s official FAQ says 007 First Light does not include a multiplayer experience. It distinguishes multiplayer from the game’s online features: the FAQ lists leaderboards and challenges, which do not mean players can join a shared match or play together.
The FAQ also says the main campaign can be played offline after a one-time internet connection to download the day-one patch. That offline qualification is separate from the absence of multiplayer.
What does First Light focus on instead?
IO Interactive describes First Light as a third-person action-adventure game telling a reimagined origin story for a young James Bond. Its gameplay overview presents a flexible approach to missions: players can favor stealth, go loud, or combine the two.

The described play includes eavesdropping, finding or taking a keycard, using environmental clues and gadgets, close-quarters and ranged combat, and driving sequences. These systems give players different ways to handle solo missions; they are not substitutes for multiplayer modes.
How did an earlier Bond game handle multiplayer?
Activision’s 2012 announcement for 007 Legends described local four-player split-screen and online competitive gameplay. That is a concrete contrast with First Light: Legends was announced with both same-room and online competitive play, while First Light has no multiplayer according to its developer.

The announced Legends modes were competitive, not co-op. The announcement establishes the mode types the publisher said the game would offer; it does not establish how good those modes were or how typical they were of Bond games overall. Multiplayer is a reasonable feature to miss when comparing particular entries, but the available evidence does not show that it defined every acclaimed James Bond game.

The emphasis in the official gameplay material is on choice within a single-player mission: observation, improvisation, gadgets, stealth and action. GameSpot’s interview with gadget designer Tom Marcham offers another view of that design emphasis. Discussing the move toward close combat, Marcham said: “We didn’t want to go into overly gamey stuff where he was always using tasers or sleep darts. It didn’t seem to fit the character. So that led us down this route of having this close combat element.”

That comment explains one design choice around gadgets and combat; it does not explain why multiplayer was left out. The key distinction remains straightforward: First Light offers online challenges and leaderboards, but no multiplayer experience.
