How this ranking works
GamesRadar+ published a list of MOBAs to play in 2026 on February 19, 2026. Its order is a useful starting point, but it is a present-day recommendation list, not a measured historical ranking with a published scoring rubric. The ranking below is therefore an editorial judgment informed by that list and by each game’s design identity. A place on it does not mean every title is equally active, available, or supported today.
For this list, a MOBA is a team-based game built around coordinated combat and strategic objectives. Traditional lane-and-base games sit at its center; games that share the combat and team-play DNA but omit base conquest are identified as MOBA-adjacent rather than treated as an uncontested genre fit.

1. League of Legends
Best overall. League of Legends is the most approachable starting point among the two flagship lane-based PC MOBAs here, while still offering room to learn character matchups, item choices, map awareness, and team coordination. Its standard win condition is to destroy the opposing team’s Nexus. The game’s character focus and broader franchise extensions also give it an identity beyond the match itself.

GameSpot’s 2015 comparison described the familiar team structure and emphasized that learning items and watching the map are part of improving. Those remain useful descriptions of the game’s strategic demands, but its 2015 roster count is not a current figure.
2. Dota 2
Best for mechanical and strategic depth. Dota 2 carries forward the legacy of Defense of the Ancients and asks players to absorb a larger information burden than League of Legends. GameSpot’s 2015 guide characterized its team structure as more fluid and identified destroying the Ancient as the central objective. That comparison is useful for understanding the games’ different design emphases, not for current roster or match-length estimates.
Choose Dota 2 if learning a demanding game is part of the appeal. Choose League of Legends if you want a gentler entry into the lane-based format.
3. Heroes of the Storm
Best for team-first, objective-led matches. Heroes of the Storm shifts attention away from a one-size-fits-all item shop: Blizzard’s guide says heroes use individual talent trees instead. Its 5v5 matches take place on battlegrounds with different objectives, so teams must respond to the map rather than follow one universal plan.

Blizzard lists battlegrounds including Dragon Shire, Towers of Doom, Cursed Hollow, and Sky Temple. The official page also lists Quick Play, Unranked, AI, custom games, ARAM, and Storm League. That mix makes the game a particularly clear alternative for players who value coordinated team decisions over a conventional item-building routine.
4. SMITE
Best for third-person, aim-led combat. SMITE’s mythological gods and goddesses are viewed from a third-person camera, making its moment-to-moment feel distinct from a top-down lane-based MOBA. Aiming abilities is part of the combat, and the traditional objective described in GameSpot’s 2015 guide is to destroy the enemy Titan; treat that source as historical context rather than confirmation of every current mechanic.
Hi-Rez’s learning resources cover gods, skills, items, communication, and game modes, which can help newcomers get oriented. The key choice is whether you want the direct character control and aiming of a third-person action game alongside MOBA team strategy.
5. Pokémon Unite
Best for a different take on scoring. Rather than making destruction of an enemy base the defining goal, Pokémon Unite centers its match identity on defeating wild Pokémon and depositing points. That change makes the objective easy to explain while still leaving room for team coordination and competition over match goals.

GamesRadar+ reported 36 playable Pokémon in its February 2026 article. That is a dated roster snapshot, not a guaranteed current count; playable characters can change over time.
6. League of Legends: Wild Rift
Best for a mobile adaptation of League’s formula. Wild Rift reworks League of Legends for mobile play, with changes to the map and abilities and matches designed to be shorter. It is not simply the PC game on a smaller screen, so players should expect adaptations to the format as well as a different control context.
Mobile platform support and availability can change by region and over time. Check the current official listing for your country and device before choosing it.
7. Deadlock
Best for a third-person lane-based experiment. GamesRadar+ described Deadlock as a third-person 6v6 game with four lanes and aimed abilities. That combination makes it a distinctive blend of lane strategy and direct, aim-based combat, rather than a conventional top-down MOBA.

Access status is time-sensitive. The description in the February 2026 GamesRadar+ article should not be taken as confirmation that the game remains invite-only or has received a broad release; check Valve’s current information before trying to play.
8. Battlerite
Best as a MOBA-adjacent combat game. Battlerite has team combat and coordinated play that appeal to MOBA fans, but it does not use base conquest as its win condition. That makes it a borderline inclusion: it belongs here for its combat and team-play connection to the genre, not because its structure matches the classic lane-and-base template.
GamesRadar+ notes that activity has declined, but a current player population was not established. Its historical position on this list should not be read as evidence of active service or a healthy matchmaking pool today.
9. Arena of Valor
Best for mobile-first controls and multiple team sizes. Arena of Valor was designed around touch controls, and GamesRadar+ also notes Nintendo Switch Joy-Con support. The same article describes 5v5 and 3v3 modes, giving it more than one team-size format.

Platform availability can differ by region and change over time, so confirm whether the version you want is currently offered where you live.
10. Vainglory
Best remembered for mobile-and-PC crossover and ability customization. GamesRadar+ credits Vainglory with mobile/Steam cross-play and skill customization, features that made it notable in the history of mobile MOBAs. Those historical strengths do not establish that its service or platforms remain available now. Verify current service status before treating it as a playable recommendation.

What makes Dota 2 different from League of Legends?
Both are influential lane-based team games with a major structure to destroy as the route to victory: the Nexus in League of Legends and the Ancient in Dota 2. The practical distinction is the learning experience. League is comparatively accessible and places strong emphasis on its characters, while Dota 2 is known for a higher information burden, more mechanical depth, and a more fluid team structure. GameSpot’s comparison was published in 2015, so its descriptions of core concepts are useful, but its old roster counts and match estimates should not be treated as current.

Not every game marketed or discussed alongside MOBAs follows the same template. Battlerite is the clearest edge case on this list: its team-based combat resembles the genre, but it lacks base conquest. Pokémon Unite also changes the familiar objective, using point scoring rather than making enemy-base destruction its defining goal. Calling these games MOBA-adjacent or MOBA variations makes the difference clear without pretending genre boundaries are universally settled.
Check availability before you commit
A ranking based on influence and design is not a guarantee that every game is playable in every region today. This matters especially for Deadlock’s access status, the current service status of Battlerite and Vainglory, and regional platform availability for Wild Rift and Arena of Valor. The available descriptions establish their distinguishing designs, but not a live platform or service check for October 2026. Confirm the current official listing or service information before setting aside time to download or learn one.
