There is no single best off-road racer for every player: rally simulations prize precision, rally raid games focus on long desert routes, and arcade or open-world racers make it easier to roam and race. This shortlist covers six games supported by the available official game pages and published coverage; it is a cross-subgenre selection, not a tested or objectively ranked top ten.
How to choose an off-road racing game
Rally games usually put you on timed stages where surface changes and car control matter. Rally raid shifts the focus to navigating long routes across open terrain. Arcade racers favor approachable handling and varied events, while open-world motorsport games make off-road driving one activity among many. Pick the format that sounds fun before comparing vehicle counts or map size.

Six off-road racing games worth considering
EA SPORTS WRC — championship rally simulation
EA SPORTS WRC is the clearest choice here for players seeking championship-style stage rally. Its official game page describes 18 official FIA World Rally Championship locations and more than 600 km of asphalt, gravel, and snow stages, alongside current WRC categories and historic rally cars. Those are EA/WRC’s own game-page figures, not an independent measure of quality. See the official EA SPORTS WRC page for the game overview and EA’s purchase page for listed storefront options. Store availability and editions can change by region.
DiRT Rally 2.0 — a tougher rally challenge
For players who want a demanding rally experience, GamesRadar’s May 2026 roundup describes DiRT Rally 2.0’s driving as realistic and difficult. It recommends a wheel and pedals but says a controller can still be used; treat that as the publication’s assessment, not a guarantee of how every player will find the handling. A wheel and pedals are optional, and specific-device compatibility should be checked before buying.

Forza Horizon 5 — open-world racing with rally content
Forza Horizon 5 suits players who want an open-world racing game rather than a dedicated rally simulator. GamesRadar characterizes the base game as accessible and open-world. For rally-focused play, Forza’s official site identifies Rally Adventure as an expansion included with the Premium Edition. Check the current edition and expansion details on Forza’s official site before purchase.
Dakar Desert Rally — rally raid and route navigation
Dakar Desert Rally is the rally raid option: its official page describes more than 30 stages, licensed vehicles, teams and pilots, changing weather, a custom roadbook editor, and both single-player and online multiplayer for up to four players. The stage count is the game’s own published figure. The page lists PlayStation, Xbox, and PC availability, but platform generations and regional storefront listings may differ; check the official Dakar the Game page or the Steam listing for current details.
Rank #2
- 30 vehicles from official manufacturers, in 3 categories: UTV, ATV, Rock Bouncer
- 5 types of races: off-road sprint, off-road circuit, hill climb, obstacle course, closed circuit
- Official manufacturers, equipment and sponsors and a comprehensive career mode with team and calendar management
- 4 types of environments: desert, forest, mountain, circuits
- Advanced vehicle and driver customization and online races for up to 8 players
DIRT 5 — arcade off-road racing
DIRT 5 is the pick for a more arcade-oriented mix of off-road events. Codemasters describes sprint cars, rock bouncers, rallycross, rally, trucks, buggies, and more than 70 routes across 10 locations. These are publisher-reported game details, not a comparative score. See Codemasters’ DIRT 5 page for its description and current purchase information.
The Crew 2 — a broad motorsport open world
The Crew 2 is not a dedicated off-road racer. Ubisoft describes a large open-world America setting with cars, bikes, boats, and planes, so it makes sense if you want off-road driving as one strand of a wider motorsport game. Its official page is the place to check current edition and platform information: Ubisoft’s The Crew 2 page.
Rank #3
- Tear it up in more than 30 unique environments.
- 6 distinct terrain types including snow, dirt, mud, ice, water and grass.
- Multiple player capable using PSP wireless multiplayer connectivity
- See from both first and third-person perspectives
- Several race modes such as race, freestyle, career or any of the various mini-games
What this shortlist does—and does not—cover
The evidence supports six entries with enough detail to distinguish their play styles, not a reliable universal ranking of ten games. SnowRunner, MudRunner, WRC 10, and Wreckfest are plausible names to investigate, but the available sources do not establish their current features, platform details, or relative merits. They are left out rather than padded in with unsupported recommendations.
For buying any of these games, check the linked official page or regional storefront for current platforms, editions, and availability. The cited game pages and publisher descriptions can change, and a platform listing should not be assumed to cover every generation or region.
