10 Mods We Want to See for Final Fantasy VII Rebirth on PC

These ten wishlist concepts build on what FF7 Rebirth already offers, imagining community mods for easier customization, better readability, practice, and PC convenience.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth already has configurable PC graphics and controls, and community-made mods are available—but the game has no official in-game mod support. The ideas below are wishlist concepts, not a list of ten released mods. They focus on conveniences, accessibility options, and creative tools that could make a second playthrough or a long session more flexible.

Square Enix’s PC page lists three default graphics presets, customizable settings, frame rates up to 120 FPS on high-spec PCs, keyboard and mouse support, configurable controls, and DualSense support. See the official PC features. In an Epic Games Store interview, director Naoki Hamaguchi said the team had no plans for official in-game mod support, while welcoming community creations subject to a request not to make or install offensive or inappropriate content. Read the interview.

What these wishlist mods would add

Community tools and downloadable modifications already exist, but they are unofficial and vary in what they support. The Reunion Mod Loader describes runtime loading and a menu for inspecting or toggling active mods. A Vortex extension supports several mod types, but it is not a universal installer; its page notes, for example, that the game and staging folder must be on the same drive. Browse Rebirth mod listings and check each listing for dependencies, supported game versions, and installation requirements.

The ten ideas here are not claims about existing releases. They range from relatively contained quality-of-life tools to changes that would likely require deeper work on assets or game behavior. A mod’s compatibility and performance impact can depend on its implementation, the game build, and other installed mods.

10 FF7 Rebirth PC mods we want to see

1. A wardrobe manager for outfits and accessories

Rebirth already includes costumes. A wardrobe manager would make them easier to organize: save named looks, preview combinations in context, and switch outfits without rebuilding a preferred combination each time. The benefit is convenience, not adding costumes the game does not have.

Player impact: High for players who change looks often. Accessibility: Low. Likely complexity: Moderate; the tool would need to respect how the game applies cosmetic choices. Compatibility: Could be affected by patches or other appearance mods.

2. More party appearance options, with an original-look toggle

Additional outfits, color variants, or classic-inspired designs would give players more ways to personalize the party. An optional toggle to restore the original appearance would help keep the base art direction available for those who prefer it. A February 2025 Nexus forum post reported that mesh modding was possible, which makes appearance-related ideas plausible, but does not guarantee that any particular design is available or compatible today. See the dated community discussion.

Player impact: High for players who value customization. Accessibility: Limited. Likely complexity: Higher than a menu tweak because it involves character assets. Compatibility: Appearance changes may conflict with other mods or need updates after game patches.

3. A photo mode with practical camera controls

A photo mode could let players adjust camera distance and height, focus, and scene filters, then hide the interface for clean screenshots. A time-of-day control could be useful where the game permits it without disrupting a scene. The goal would be deliberate framing—not an assumption that every scene can be freely paused or repositioned.

Player impact: High for screenshot-takers. Accessibility: Some benefit from adjustable framing and reduced interface clutter. Likely complexity: High if it must work across varied scenes. Compatibility: Likely sensitive to game updates and camera-related hooks.

4. Saved control profiles for characters and contexts

PC players can already customize controls, including for exploration, combat, and minigames. The useful next step would be named profiles that can be saved and switched by context or character, plus clearer accessibility-oriented presets. That avoids treating basic remapping as a missing feature while addressing the friction of repeatedly changing settings.

Player impact: High for players who switch input styles or contexts. Accessibility: High. Likely complexity: Moderate if the game exposes the relevant settings; greater if not. Compatibility: Lower than asset-changing mods, though updates could still affect behavior.

5. A configurable interface and readability suite

Independent controls for HUD scale, opacity, contrast, and text size would let players tune readability without changing every interface element together. Selective HUD hiding could also reduce clutter while keeping essential information visible. This is a proposed usability layer, not a confirmed existing Rebirth mod.

Player impact: Broad. Accessibility: High, particularly for players who need larger text or stronger contrast. Likely complexity: Moderate to high depending on how the interface is built. Compatibility: Interface changes may need adjustment when the game updates.

6. Saved materia, equipment, and party loadouts

A loadout manager could save named combinations of materia, equipment, and party setups, then restore them for a different fight or play style. It would reduce repetitive menu work while leaving the player in control of the build. Any implementation should make clear what it changes and avoid silently overwriting a current setup.

Player impact: High for players who frequently change builds. Accessibility: Moderate, by reducing repeated menu navigation. Likely complexity: High if it must reliably alter several interconnected systems. Compatibility: Could be vulnerable to game updates or conflicts with other gameplay mods.

7. A practice mode for minigames

A practice option could offer repeatable drills, immediate scoring feedback, and adjustable practice difficulty before a full challenge attempt. It should teach through safe repetition without changing the rules or rewards of the actual challenge.

Player impact: High for players who want to learn a minigame before committing to an attempt. Accessibility: High if practice difficulty and feedback are adjustable. Likely complexity: Varies by minigame. Compatibility: Changes that touch minigame logic could be more patch-sensitive than a simple interface option.

8. Optional pacing controls for repeated sequences

Player-controlled options to shorten or skip repeated summon animations, transitions, or other recurring effects would help players who are replaying content or want a quicker pace. These controls should be opt-in, with the original presentation intact by default, so players can choose how much spectacle to keep.

Player impact: Moderate to high for repeat play. Accessibility: Potentially useful for players who prefer shorter or less repetitive effects. Likely complexity: Moderate to high because sequences may be tied to gameplay or timing. Compatibility: Could be affected by updates to the sequences it changes.

9. More targeted visual presets for PC

Rebirth already has graphics presets and customizable settings, so the gap is not a lack of graphics options. A focused preset tool could explain and bundle choices for foliage, level of detail, shadows, and texture streaming, with conservative defaults and an obvious reset path. That would make tuning easier without promising a particular frame-rate gain.

Community listings include graphics and performance modifications, but the pages’ performance statements are author claims, not independent benchmark results. Dependencies and game-version notes also matter. Check individual mod pages before installing or relying on a claimed improvement.

Player impact: High for players who want a simpler route to targeted settings. Accessibility: Moderate, especially when presets explain visual trade-offs. Likely complexity: Moderate for a settings helper; higher if it changes rendering behavior. Compatibility: Potentially patch-sensitive, and any performance cost or benefit would depend on the PC and configuration.

10. A compatibility and update dashboard

A single dashboard could show active mods, dependencies, the detected game version, known conflicts, and a clear profile or rollback workflow. That would go beyond the basic features documented by existing community tools: Reunion describes a runtime loader and mod menu, while the Vortex extension handles several mod types with stated constraints. The wishlist is for clearer status and recovery—not the first mod manager.

Player impact: High for anyone managing several mods. Accessibility: Moderate, through clearer warnings and recovery steps. Likely complexity: High because the tool would need reliable metadata and version detection. Compatibility: The dashboard itself would need updates as game builds and mod formats change.

Which ideas would matter most?

The strongest first projects would pair broad usefulness with manageable scope. A control-profile tool and a readable interface suite could help many players without requiring new character assets or changes to combat. A wardrobe manager and a loadout manager could remove recurring menu friction, though the latter would need to handle interconnected gameplay data carefully. Photo mode, new appearances, practice systems, and pacing controls offer distinctive benefits but are more likely to depend on deeper access to scenes, assets, or game logic.

For visual or gameplay mods, check the individual listing for required loaders, dependencies, supported game version, and installation constraints. Community tools are unofficial, and a game update can change whether a mod works. Do not assume that a mod available for one store or setup will install or behave the same way on another.
