Some games make taking pictures the point; others use a camera to solve problems, fill a collection, or capture a scene on your own terms. These ten picks include both kinds, clearly separated so you can choose the experience you want.
Games where photography drives the experience
In these five games, photography is a central activity or a meaningful part of progress—not just an optional way to save a screenshot. Nintendo has described photography as important to the gameplay of several of these titles, including New Pokémon Snap, TOEM, Alba: A Wildlife Adventure, and Umurangi Generation Special Edition. Nintendo’s photography roundup also highlights Pupperazzi.
1. New Pokémon Snap
New Pokémon Snap is the clearest fit if you want a game built around photographing wildlife. On Nintendo Switch, you travel through the Lental region on an ecological survey, photographing Pokémon in their habitats and building a Photodex. The official game site describes that expedition as the heart of the adventure.
Taking a picture is only part of the task. Professor Mirror evaluates factors including a Pokémon’s pose, size in the frame, whether it faces the camera, and its placement in the composition. Photos are also grouped into one-to-four-star categories that represent different behaviors; you can register a photo from each category on a Pokémon’s Photodex page. Fluffruit can attract Pokémon or prompt them to eat, giving you ways to reveal behavior worth documenting. The official Photodex guide explains these mechanics.

#1 Best Overall
- 16MP Sensor: Captures detailed photos with a CMOS sensor for everyday shooting
- Optical Zoom: 4x optical zoom with a 27mm wide angle lens for flexible framing indoors or outdoors
- Full HD Video: Records 1080p video for travel clips, family moments, or simple vlogging
- Memory Support: Works with Class 10 SD, SDHC, or SDXC cards up to 512GB
- LCD Screen and Battery: 2.7in LCD screen with 2 AA alkaline batteries for convenient on-the-go use
Choose it if you like revisiting encounters to capture a better image or a behavior you have not recorded. Its photography has clear goals and feedback, rather than relying only on your own ideas for what makes a good shot.
2. TOEM
TOEM makes photography a way to engage with a hand-drawn world. You use your camera while exploring and help characters by taking pictures that address their problems; photographs also help uncover mysteries. That gives each shot a practical purpose in the adventure, not just a place in a gallery. Nintendo describes the photo-based requests and mystery-solving in its game roundup.
Pick it if you want exploration and gentle picture-taking tasks rather than wildlife scoring or a purely creative photo mode.
3. Pupperazzi
In Pupperazzi, dogs are the subjects and photographing and cataloging them are central activities. Nintendo’s description emphasizes capturing dogs and building a collection of pictures, making it a natural choice if you want a playful photography game with a focused subject. Nintendo’s overview includes the game alongside other camera-focused picks.
Its appeal is the uncomplicated premise: look for dogs, take pictures, and keep documenting them. It is the most specialized pick here for anyone who would happily make a whole game out of dog photography.

- 16MP Sensor: Captures detailed photos with a CMOS sensor for everyday shooting
- Optical Zoom: 5x optical zoom with a 28mm wide angle lens for flexible framing indoors or outdoors
- Full HD Video: Records 1080p video for travel clips, family moments, or simple vlogging
- Memory Support: Works with Class 10 SD, SDHC, or SDXC cards up to 512GB

4. Alba: A Wildlife Adventure
Alba: A Wildlife Adventure puts photography in a wildlife-and-exploration setting. Nintendo groups it with games in which photography is an important part of gameplay, alongside New Pokémon Snap and TOEM. The roundup supports its inclusion as a photography-led option, though it does not provide a detailed breakdown of the camera’s scoring or progression systems.
Choose it for a wildlife-oriented adventure rather than assuming it uses the same route-based survey and Photodex structure as New Pokémon Snap.
5. Umurangi Generation Special Edition
Umurangi Generation Special Edition is another photography-centered choice in Nintendo’s roundup of games where taking pictures is important to gameplay. Nintendo’s list identifies it as part of that group, but does not set out the camera’s detailed objectives or scoring in the available description.
It belongs on a shortlist for players who want photography to be more than a decorative feature. If you are deciding between it and a game with explicitly described cataloging or request mechanics, check the current store description for the details that matter most to you.
Broader adventures with worthwhile camera mechanics
These five games offer a camera as a collection, exploration, or creative tool within a broader experience. That can make them good choices if you want photography alongside other gameplay, but they are not equivalent to games whose central loop is taking pictures.

6. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild includes a camera and a photo-collection element as part of a much larger journey. Nintendo includes it among games where players can use an in-game camera to capture creatures and environments. Nintendo’s photo-taking recommendations frame it as one option in a broader set, not as a photography-first game.
Choose it if you want the camera to complement exploration and adventure rather than define every activity.

Pikmin 3 Deluxe has a camera feature on the KopPad, giving you a way to photograph the environments and creatures you encounter. Nintendo specifically points to the KopPad camera in its photo-taking guide. The camera is a feature inside a strategy-and-exploration game, not its main progression loop.
It is a fit if you want to take pictures while exploring a world with small creatures and environmental detail, while still playing a game whose broader focus lies elsewhere.
8. Animal Crossing: New Horizons
Animal Crossing: New Horizons gives players a camera through the NookPhone. You can take pictures of island life and use the camera as part of the game’s memory-making and Nook Miles activities. Nintendo mentions the NookPhone camera among the title’s photo-taking features. Read Nintendo’s description.

Monster Hunter Rise includes Camera Mode for taking pictures of monsters, Buddies, and poses. Nintendo presents it as a way to capture creatures and moments within the larger game. Its photo-taking guide is useful context if you are looking for a camera feature rather than a game organized around photography.
Pick it if you want to document creatures and characters during a broader hunting adventure, not if you are looking for photography to be the main activity.
10. Life is Strange Arcadia Bay Collection
Life is Strange Arcadia Bay Collection uses photography as part of its story-adventure experience, including finding and collecting photos. Nintendo includes it among camera-related recommendations, but that does not make it a photography-first game. Nintendo’s roundup is the source for its inclusion.
Consider it if you want a narrative adventure with photography woven into the experience, rather than a free-form camera or a wildlife catalog.

| What you want | Start with | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Photography as the main activity | New Pokémon Snap or Pupperazzi | Photograph and document Pokémon or dogs as a central part of play. |
| Photos that help you progress | TOEM | Pictures help characters and reveal mysteries. |
| Wildlife and exploration | Alba: A Wildlife Adventure | Nintendo identifies photography as important to its gameplay. |
| A photography-centered option with less detail in Nintendo’s summary | Umurangi Generation Special Edition | Nintendo places it among games where photography is important, without detailing its camera systems in that roundup. |
| A camera inside a larger game | Breath of the Wild, Pikmin 3 Deluxe, Animal Crossing: New Horizons, or Monster Hunter Rise | Use an in-game camera to record places, creatures, or moments, while photography remains one feature among several. |
| A story adventure with collectible photos | Life is Strange Arcadia Bay Collection | Photography is part of the narrative experience rather than the whole game. |
The distinction is useful when searching for “games where you can take pictures”: a camera feature may mean a dedicated photo mode, a collectible objective, or a core loop built around photographing subjects. Nintendo’s recommendations span all of those, so the best match depends on whether you want to score shots, solve tasks, keep a record, or simply capture a favorite moment.
