There is no objectively best Minecraft weapon or gun mod: the right choice depends on whether you want animated firearms, survival crafting, fantasy weapons, or a broader warfare overhaul—and on whether the mod supports your Minecraft version and loader. This guide compares 20 options by the experience they offer, not by an unsupported quality ranking. Before installing, verify the exact game version, loader, and dependencies on the project’s file page.

How to choose a Minecraft weapon or gun mod

Start with your preferred kind of combat, then check compatibility. A firearm showcase, a progression-driven survival mod, and a vehicle-focused warfare pack solve different problems; a feature list alone cannot make them interchangeable.

  • Combat style: Decide between vanilla-like weapons, animated firearms, fantasy or game-inspired gear, throwable weapons, and large-scale warfare.
  • Survival integration: Check whether weapons are crafted through ordinary recipes, specialized workbenches, or a resource-progression system.
  • Customization: Look for attachments, skins, weapon packs, or datapack and resource-pack support if you want to tune an arsenal.
  • Compatibility: Match both the Minecraft version and mod loader. Add every dependency specified by the project, and confirm the particular file supports your setup.

The Beebom roundup updated December 9, 2025 and CurseForge’s February 2, 2026 guide offer editorial descriptions, not controlled comparisons or independently measured winners. The recommendations below are therefore best understood as choices for particular preferences. Beebom’s weapon and gun mod roundup and CurseForge’s gun mod guide are useful starting points; always verify current compatibility on the selected project’s own page.

20 Minecraft weapon and gun mods to consider

Animated firearms and customization

  1. Timeless and Classics Guns (TaCZ): A strong pick if animations and detailed weapon handling matter most. The Beebom list highlights customization; CurseForge’s 2026 guide describes individual reload and inspection animations, workbench crafting, an attachment interface, and installable gun packs. Beebom and CurseForge describe different aspects of the project; check the relevant version’s files for the features and loader you need.
  2. Timeless and Classics Guns: CurseForge’s guide describes this as a modern firearms mod with more than 50 animated weapons, weapon-specific handling, attachments, skins, and datapack or resource-pack customization. That count is the guide’s description, not an independent inventory audit. CurseForge
  3. Vic’s Point Blank: Consider it for a vanilla-styled firearms set with crafting and attachments. CurseForge’s guide describes around 40 firearms and lists Forge, NeoForge, and Fabric versions in its roundup. These are guide-level descriptions, so confirm loader and version on the specific file page. CurseForge
  4. MrCrayfish’s Gun Mod: A comparatively focused set rather than an enormous arsenal: CurseForge describes nine firearms, grenades, attachments, and gun-specific enchantments. Its guide lists Forge and says Framework is required for Minecraft 1.18 and above; verify those details for the release you intend to use. CurseForge
  5. Scorched Guns 2: A candidate for players who want firearms embedded in a larger survival world. CurseForge describes 100+ firearms alongside crafting machines, blueprints, structures, turrets, and gun-themed mobs, and lists Forge and NeoForge with multiple dependencies. The feature count and loader summary come from the guide, not hands-on testing. CurseForge

Survival progression and weapon crafting

  1. Just Enough Guns: Choose this if unlocking weapons through survival progression is more appealing than simply adding a ready-made arsenal. CurseForge describes tiered workbenches, resource progression, factions and raids, and 20+ animated weapons; its listed dependencies include Framework and GeckoLib. Confirm the dependency versions on the project page. CurseForge
  2. Mo’ Than Enough Guns: An add-on for Just Enough Guns that brings classic Mo’ Guns weapons into that framework. It makes the most sense if you already want the base mod and its progression structure. CurseForge
  3. Simple Guns: Reworked: A smaller-scale choice described by CurseForge as using mostly vanilla resources, with reload and cooldown constraints. Consider it when you prefer limits and a compact arsenal to a broad firearms overhaul. CurseForge
  4. Guns Without Roses: A project surfaced in Modrinth’s discovery snapshot. Treat that listing as a way to explore the project, not as confirmation that a particular release supports your Minecraft version or loader. Modrinth’s mod discovery
  5. Stabx Modern Guns: Also surfaced in Modrinth’s discovery results. Check its individual listing and file metadata before choosing it for a specific setup; the discovery snapshot alone does not establish current compatibility. Modrinth’s mod discovery

Fantasy, game-inspired, and throwable weapons

  1. Minecraft Dungeons Weapons: The Beebom roundup recommends this for bringing weapons from the companion game Minecraft Dungeons into Minecraft. It is a better fit for game-inspired gear than for realistic firearm handling. Beebom
  2. Weapon Throw: A straightforward option if you want swords and axes to work as throwable weapons, rather than adding a firearm-centered combat system. Beebom
  3. Portal Gun: Listed by Beebom among its weapon and gun recommendations. Its appeal is the Portal-inspired tool concept, rather than a conventional firearms arsenal. Check the project page for the version and loader you plan to play. Beebom
  4. Gravity Gun: Beebom describes this mod as compatible only with Minecraft 1.12.2. Treat that as the roundup’s compatibility claim, not a guarantee about current project files; check the project page before installation. Beebom
  5. Modular Powersuits: Included in Beebom’s list for players considering equipment beyond a conventional gun set. The roundup names the project but does not establish a current supported version or loader, so use its project page to evaluate fit. Beebom

Broader combat and battlefield systems

  1. Superb Warfare: Pick this for a battlefield experience that goes beyond handheld weapons. CurseForge describes guns, cannons, tanks, and helicopters, making it the broadest warfare-style option in this selection. CurseForge
  2. MrCrayfish’s Gun Mod with attachments: The same project can suit players who want to tune a compact firearms set rather than install a separate mega-arsenal. Its attachments and gun-specific enchantments are described by CurseForge; availability can vary by version. CurseForge
  3. TaCZ with installable gun packs: If the base TaCZ experience is close but you want a different arsenal, its installable gun packs are a distinctive feature in CurseForge’s description. Confirm pack and base-mod version compatibility together. CurseForge
  4. Just Enough Guns with Mo’ Than Enough Guns: This pairing is for players who want the Just Enough Guns progression framework expanded with classic Mo’ Guns weapons. The add-on depends on the base mod, so check both project pages and their dependencies. CurseForge
  5. Scorched Guns 2 as an overhaul: Its machines, blueprints, structures, turrets, and mobs make it a fit for players who want the world as well as the player’s loadout to change. Its broader scope also makes checking all listed dependencies especially important. CurseForge

The final five entries highlight distinct ways to use projects already named in the roundups rather than five additional standalone mods. They are included to make the comparison useful by playstyle without implying a quality ranking or claiming that combining projects is always compatible.

How to install one safely

CurseForge’s installation guide advises matching the mod’s Minecraft version and loader, installing through the project listing or placing its JAR in the mods folder, and adding dependencies named on the project page. CurseForge’s guide

  1. Choose the exact project file: Open the mod’s project page and identify a file for your Minecraft version. Do not infer support from a roundup, an old catalog result, or another version’s feature list.
  2. Match the profile: Create or select a Minecraft profile using the same game version and mod loader required by that file.
  3. Install the mod: Use the launcher or platform’s project installation option, or place the downloaded .jar in that profile’s mods folder as appropriate for your setup.
  4. Add dependencies: Install every dependency listed for that exact release, including compatible versions of library mods.
  5. Test the profile: Launch the game with the selected profile before adding more mods. If it fails, check that the game version, loader, mod file, and dependency versions match; remove the newest addition to isolate a conflict.

Why download counts and version labels need caution

Catalog figures are snapshots, not enduring popularity rankings or compatibility guarantees. In a CurseForge catalog snapshot accessed in 2026, MrCrayfish’s Gun Mod showed 31.0 million downloads and a latest file dated August 23, 2023, listed for Minecraft 1.19.4 with Forge. The same snapshot showed Timeless and Classics Guns at 8.9 million downloads, with a latest file dated April 28, 2024, listed for Minecraft 1.16.5 with Forge. Those figures describe that catalog snapshot only; check each live project and file page for current releases. CurseForge’s mod catalog
