34com.dll is a legacy VampCOM Module component used by Philips SAA7130/SAA7133/SAA7134/SAA7135 TV-tuner and video-capture hardware. If Windows says 34com.dll is missing, was not found, or could not be loaded, the safest fix is to restore the complete capture-card driver and its matching TV application, not to download a loose DLL.
This is not a normal Windows file, DirectX component, Visual C++ runtime, or .NET file. It was distributed as part of old third-party capture-driver packages, often alongside files such as 34api.dll, 34dd.dll, 34dialog.dll, 34TvCtrl.dll, Prop7134.dll, cap7134.sys, and PhTVTune.sys.
Fix 1: Identify the capture card and reinstall its complete package
Time needed: 20–45 minutes
This is the fix most likely to work. A missing 34com.dll usually means that the TV-tuner driver, capture application, or both were installed incompletely.
1. Check Device Manager
- Press Windows key + X.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Sound, video and game controllers.
- Also check Other devices for an item with a yellow warning icon.
- Look for names containing:
- SAA713x
- Philips
- TV tuner
- Video capture
- WDM capture
- The card or computer manufacturer’s name
- Right-click the device and select Properties.
- Open the Details tab.
- In the Property list, select Hardware Ids.
- Copy the displayed values somewhere safe.
If the card is not listed, shut down the computer and check whether the PCI or PCIe card is seated correctly. On a laptop or branded desktop, look for the original computer model instead of removing hardware.

2. Find the correct driver source
Use the exact card model, computer model, and Windows edition when searching the manufacturer’s support pages. The original driver package may be listed under:
- TV tuner
- Analog capture
- Video capture
- Multimedia
- Philips SAA713x
- WDM driver
- TV application
Prefer the original computer manufacturer or card manufacturer. Do not choose a package solely because its archive contains a file named 34com.dll. Several historical builds existed, and a DLL from one package may not match the other DLLs or the kernel driver from another.
3. Remove the damaged installation
Before removing anything, download or copy the replacement package and record the TV application’s product key or configuration details if applicable.
Then:
- Open Settings.
- Select Apps.
- Select Installed apps on Windows 11, or Apps & features on Windows 10.
- Uninstall the old TV-viewing or capture application.
- Restart Windows.
- Open Device Manager again.
- Right-click the capture device.
- Select Uninstall device.
- If offered, select Attempt to remove the driver for this device.
- Select Uninstall.
- Restart again.
Some vendor packages have their own removal utility. If the manufacturer’s instructions specify a particular uninstall order, follow that order.

- Extract the complete driver package to a local folder.
- Right-click its setup program and select Run as administrator.
- If there is no setup program, right-click the relevant
.inffile and select Install. - Follow the installer prompts.
- Restart Windows when prompted.
- Install the matching TV or capture application.
- Restart once more.
Do not copy only 34com.dll into System32. The application may also require the companion DLLs, the .sys capture driver, device configuration, and vendor-specific registry entries.
How to tell whether this worked
Open Device Manager and confirm that the capture card has no warning icon. Then start the TV or capture application.
A successful repair normally results in the application opening and detecting the tuner or capture device. If the program opens but reports “Can’t get Device.”, the DLL may be present while the hardware driver, device selection, or driver version is still wrong.
If the card remains hidden or has a warning icon, continue with the driver troubleshooting section below rather than downloading another copy of the DLL.

Finding the exact legacy package can involve comparing hardware IDs, operating-system compatibility, and several old driver revisions. Fix 2: Repair or reinstall the TV application
Time needed: 10–25 minutes
The TV application may have been removed, partially repaired, or installed before its capture driver. In that situation, the application can request 34com.dll even when Windows itself is working normally.

Try Windows application repair
- Open Settings.
- Select Apps.
- Select Installed apps.
- Find the TV, capture, or tuner application.
- Select the More button with three dots.
- Select Advanced options.
- Select Repair, if available.
- Start the application again.
Repair normally preserves application data. If Repair does not help, return to the same page and select Reset, if available. Reset can remove application settings, so use it only after recording any channel, recording, or device configuration.
Reinstall the application
If no repair option exists:
- Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Uninstall the TV or capture application.
- Restart Windows.
- Reinstall the application from the original vendor package.
- If the installer offers driver installation, allow it to install the matching driver.
- Restart Windows.
- Test the application as the same Windows user who normally runs it.
If the application was designed for Windows XP or Windows 7, right-click its shortcut, select Properties, open Compatibility, and use the compatibility troubleshooter. Compatibility mode cannot create a missing hardware driver, but it can help an old user interface launch after the driver is correctly installed.

Check the application directory
If the installer is available, do not manually assemble a replacement folder. The correct package should place its files where the application expects them and configure the capture device. If 34com.dll exists in one folder but the application still cannot load it, the error may concern a dependency of that DLL rather than the named file itself.
Fix 3: Check whether antivirus quarantined the file
Time needed: 10–20 minutes
If the application worked previously and the error appeared immediately after a security scan, check quarantine history.
Windows Security steps
- Open Start.
- Type Windows Security.
- Open it.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Look for an item involving the TV application or its driver directory.
- Read the detected file path and action.
Do not restore a file merely because its name is 34com.dll. A filename alone does not prove that a binary is genuine. Verify that the file came from the original driver package, examine the package’s digital signature where available, and scan the complete package.

- Reinstall the complete driver package.
- Run a full Windows Security scan.
- Start the capture application.
If the file is quarantined again, stop restoring it repeatedly. The package may be damaged, incompatible, or unsafe. Obtain a clean package from the computer or card manufacturer instead.
Fix 4: Confirm 32-bit compatibility and matching versions
Time needed: 10–30 minutes
34com.dll is associated with historical Win32 capture software. A 32-bit TV application can run on 64-bit Windows through WOW64, but it still needs the correct 32-bit driver and supporting files.
Check the application architecture
- Start the TV application if possible.
- Open Task Manager with Ctrl + Shift + Esc.
- Select the Details tab.
- Right-click a column heading and select Select columns.
- Enable Platform, if the option is available.
On some Windows versions, a 32-bit process is marked with a suffix such as *32. You can also right-click the application executable, select Properties, and inspect its compatibility information, although that does not always identify its architecture.

Use the complete matching package
Do not install a hypothetical 64-bit replacement simply because Windows is 64-bit. Use the driver package supplied for the exact card and operating system. The application, 34com.dll, companion DLLs, and .sys driver must be compatible with one another.
Historical packages contain different builds of the file. Reported records include more than one version and size, so file size alone cannot identify the correct replacement. If several copies are present, keep the copy installed by the matching application and driver package.
Why System32 can be confusing
On 64-bit Windows, System32 is the native system directory, while SysWOW64 supports 32-bit compatibility. The names are counterintuitive. Do not copy 34com.dll into both directories. A third-party capture DLL generally belongs with the application or driver package that installed it, not in a Windows system directory.
Fix 5: Use regsvr32 only when the installer requires it
Time needed: 5–15 minutes
Do not blindly run:
regsvr32 34com.dll
Philips documentation describes 34COM.dll as part of a COM interface, but that does not prove that every copy of the binary is a self-registering COM server. regsvr32 works only when the DLL exposes the required DllRegisterServer entry point.
If the original installer or INF explicitly says to register the file, use the utility matching the application architecture. For a 32-bit DLL on 64-bit Windows, that is normally:
%windir%SysWOW64regsvr32.exe "C:path34com.dll"
For a 32-bit version of Windows, use:
%windir%System32regsvr32.exe "C:path34com.dll"
Replace the path with the actual location and run the command from Command Prompt as administrator.
A message saying that the module loaded but DllRegisterServer was not found means the DLL is not self-registering. It does not mean you should copy it to another directory. Reinstall the complete vendor package instead.
Fix 6: Repair Windows components only when Windows itself is damaged
Time needed: 20–45 minutes
34com.dll is not identified as a protected Windows component, so SFC and DISM do not normally restore it. They are secondary checks for broader Windows corruption or an installation process that fails because the Windows component store is damaged.
Run DISM
- Open Start.
- Type Command Prompt.
- Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for the command to finish.
- Restart Windows.
Run System File Checker
Open an elevated Command Prompt again and run:
sfc /scannow
Wait until verification reaches 100 percent, then restart Windows and reinstall the complete capture driver.

If SFC reports that it repaired files, test Windows and then reinstall the capture package. If it reports that no integrity violations were found, that is expected for a third-party DLL and does not prove that the capture installation is correct.
Repeating SFC and DISM will not manufacture a missing Philips capture component. Fix 7: Use System Restore after a known driver or Windows change
Time needed: 20–60 minutes
System Restore is appropriate when the application worked, a restore point exists, and the failure began immediately after a driver installation, Windows change, or application change.
- Press Windows key + R.
- Type:
rstrui.exe
- Press Enter.
- Select Next.
- Choose a restore point created before the problem began.
- Select Scan for affected programs if available.
- Review the changes.
- Select Next, then Finish.
- Allow Windows to restart.
System Restore does not replace a missing modern driver and should not be used as a substitute for obtaining the exact capture package. After restoration, check Device Manager and test the TV application.

A missing DLL may be only the first visible symptom. After reinstalling the application, you may see a different error, including “Can’t get Device.”
In Device Manager:
- Expand Sound, video and game controllers.
- Right-click the capture device.
- Select Properties.
- Read the Device status box on the General tab.
- Open the Driver tab.
- Check the provider, date, version, and whether Roll Back Driver is available.
- Open Details and inspect Hardware Ids.
A warning icon, Code 10, Code 28, or an absent device indicates a driver or hardware problem. The application DLL cannot replace cap7134.sys or another kernel driver.
If the device is detected but the application cannot access it:
- Close other TV, webcam, video, and recording programs.
- Restart Windows.
- Check whether another program has exclusive access.
- Reinstall the capture driver and application as one matched package.
- Try another PCI slot if the card is not detected at all.
- Check the manufacturer’s instructions for the exact card model.
Why the error appears
The usual causes are:

The problem can appear after reinstalling Windows, changing the capture driver, updating an application, replacing hardware, or removing a quarantined file. Although historical users sometimes suspected DirectX changes, that does not establish DirectX as the cause. Reinstalling DirectX, Visual C++, or .NET is not the evidence-based first repair for this file.
Avoid standalone DLL download sites
Downloading 34com.dll from a random DLL website is risky and often ineffective. You may receive:
- The wrong historical build
- The wrong architecture
- A file that does not match the companion DLLs
- A tampered or malicious binary
- A file that lacks the required driver and registry configuration
Do not place an unverified file in System32, SysWOW64, or the application directory. Do not use DLL repair utilities that replace files one at a time.
