Error 0x87DD0013 is usually an Xbox identity or service-connection failure. Microsoft maps it to AM_E_USER_NOT_FOUND: the Xbox user object is no longer signed in or is unknown. A service outage, stale account session, communication restriction, NAT problem, or Windows networking component can trigger the same symptom. Use the four fixes below in order, choosing the steps for your platform.
Check the official Xbox Status page first. If Social and Gaming, Account & Profile, Multiplayer, or a related service is degraded, wait for Microsoft to restore it before changing router or security settings.
1. Refresh your Xbox account session
This is the least disruptive response to the code’s official meaning. It applies to Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and account-connected games on Windows.
On an Xbox console
- Open Profile & system → Sign out.
- Restart the console.
- Sign back in with the account that received the error.
- Try the same Party Chat, invitation, or multiplayer game again.
If it still fails, sign out other accounts on the console and retry with only the affected account. Check whether that account works in the Xbox mobile app or on the Xbox website. If it fails on multiple devices and networks, stop changing router settings and contact Xbox Support.

On Windows
Sign out of the Xbox app, then sign back in. Confirm that Xbox, Gaming Services, and Microsoft Store are using the same Microsoft account. In Windows, enable automatic date, time, and time-zone settings and synchronize the clock; a badly incorrect system clock can invalidate authentication tokens, although it is not a confirmed cause of this code.
2. Check enforcement, privacy, and family settings
Use this path when the message says Party Chat blocked, communication is restricted, or it directs you to review security settings. The code by itself does not prove that an account is banned.
- Open Xbox Enforcement History and sign in.
- Review active actions and any available case-review options.
- On the console, open Settings → Account → Privacy & online safety.
- Check permissions for communication and joining multiplayer games.
- For a child account, ask the parent or family organizer to review the controls.
If an enforcement action exists, follow Microsoft’s appeal or account-management process. An empty Enforcement History page does not by itself establish that the fault is your network; session, service, and privacy settings can still need investigation. 3. Test NAT, multiplayer connectivity, and the router path
Choose this fix when invitations, hosting, multiplayer joins, or parties disconnect, especially if Xbox reports NAT unavailable, UPnP not successful, or Double NAT detected. Internet browsing or game downloads working does not prove that Xbox voice and multiplayer signaling are healthy.
Run the Xbox tests
- Open Settings → General → Network settings.
- Select Test network connection.
- Select Test multiplayer connection.
- Record the NAT type and any UPnP, Double NAT, or packet-loss warning.
- Restart the router: unplug it for about 30 seconds, reconnect it, wait for service, then restart the console.
- If possible, test Ethernet or a different network, such as a phone hotspot.
Two routers in series can create Double NAT; disabled or failing UPnP, guest or managed Wi-Fi, carrier-grade NAT, VPNs, and router firewalls can also interfere. An Open NAT lowers the likelihood of a NAT restriction but does not rule out outages, packet loss, account-session failures, or game-specific servers.
Use Microsoft’s multiplayer troubleshooting, Xbox Live ports, and Party Chat guidance. Do not manually forward ports as a first step: it may be unnecessary when UPnP works and can conflict with other router settings.

4. Repair Xbox networking components on Windows
These steps are for the Xbox app, Game Bar, Gaming Services, and PC games using Xbox services—not for ordinary console troubleshooting.

- Check NAT type and Server connectivity.
- If Server connectivity is Blocked, temporarily disable VPNs or proxies and verify that Windows Firewall is enabled and that third-party security software is not blocking Xbox components.
- Open Windows Settings → Apps → Installed apps.
- Open the Xbox app’s Advanced options and select Repair.
- Do the same for Gaming Services if it is listed.
- Restart Windows and sign into Xbox and Microsoft Store with the same account.
Microsoft explains that blocked Teredo/IPsec connectivity can prevent Xbox Party Chat and Xbox Live multiplayer on Windows. Consult its Server connectivity guidance for Teredo, firewall, and service checks. Use Reset only after Repair fails; Reset can remove app preferences and require another sign-in. Do not uninstall antivirus software or leave protection disabled.

If none of the fixes works
Before contacting support, record your platform, exact error wording, whether Party Chat, game chat, or multiplayer joining fails, NAT type, Xbox Status result, whether another account works, whether another network changes the result, and whether one title or every Xbox-connected game is affected. Then use official Xbox Support.

A game that does not use Xbox Live may have its own voice, matchmaking, cross-play, and account systems. If only that title fails, use the game publisher’s official support and service-status pages rather than assuming the Xbox platform is responsible.

Yes. VPNs and proxy tools can interfere with Xbox authentication, Teredo, NAT traversal, or voice traffic. Disable one temporarily for a controlled test, then restore protection.

Is Open NAT required for Party Chat?
No. NAT affects some multiplayer and party scenarios, but Open NAT does not eliminate outages, packet loss, firewall filtering, account-session problems, or game-specific failures.
Why does only one game fail?
That title may use its own voice chat, matchmaking service, cross-play rules, or permissions. Check the game’s official support and status information.
Should I reset my Xbox or change DNS?
Neither should be a first step. Refresh the account session, check service status and permissions, and run the network tests first. Factory resets and DNS changes are not established universal fixes for this code.
