These five games let friends play together across many major PC, console, and mobile platforms—but no game works on literally every device. Your options depend on the game edition, device, country, and mobile storefront. The best all-round choice is Fortnite; for a shared building world, choose Minecraft: Bedrock Edition.
Two terms matter: cross-play means players on different platforms can join the same game, while cross-progression means some progress or unlocks follow an account between devices. One does not guarantee the other, and purchases or features may still differ by platform.

Platform availability can vary by country, device model, OS version, and storefront. A listed platform does not guarantee that every mode, feature, or purchase is shared. Console online-service requirements also depend on the platform and game.

Fortnite has the widest combination of major platforms in this list: PC, PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, and supported mobile devices. Its online modes include battle royale and creative experiences, so a group can choose competitive matches or less structured play. Epic describes cross-platform play and account progression in its Fortnite FAQ and account and progression support.
- Cross-play: Yes, across supported platforms. Friends can use Epic’s social system to form a party.
- Cross-progression: Link platform accounts to the same Epic Games account to carry eligible progress and most purchases between supported platforms. V-Bucks are an important exception: their balance does not universally transfer between platforms.
- Cost: Free-to-play for its principal online modes, with optional purchases and passes.
- Best group: Friends who want action, frequent new content, and the widest chance of finding a shared platform.
- Main drawback: It demands substantial storage and updates, and touch, controller, and keyboard-and-mouse play can feel very different. Playing in the same party does not mean every input method is equally comfortable or competitive.
Mobile installation is not uniform. Android and iOS distribution can depend on country, storefront, and device; check Epic’s current mobile and platform guidance rather than assuming the game is available through the same store everywhere. To bring progress together, sign in with the same Epic account on each device and verify that the correct console profile is linked.
2. Minecraft: Bedrock Edition: best for a shared world
If your group wants to build, explore, and return to the same world over time, choose Minecraft: Bedrock Edition. Bedrock supports cross-play among compatible players on Windows, Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch, Android, and iOS. The key word is Bedrock: Minecraft’s edition comparison distinguishes it from Java Edition, which is principally for PC and does not normally join console or mobile Bedrock worlds.

- Cross-play: Yes, when everyone has a compatible Bedrock version and uses an available multiplayer route, such as a friend’s world, a Realm, or a server.
- Cross-progression: Do not treat cross-play as a guarantee that every world, save, or purchase will follow you. Sign-in and save behavior depend on platform and setup.
- Cost: The game is paid. Realms, an optional hosted world that stays available to invited players, is a separate paid service. Console multiplayer rules may also apply.

Before buying or inviting friends, check that everyone is using Bedrock, not Java. If the group wants a world available when its owner is offline, compare Realms with other hosting options; it is not required for every kind of multiplayer session.
3. Roblox: best for variety
Roblox is a platform containing many user-created experiences, not one uniform game. Its breadth makes it useful for groups that want to switch between genres without installing a new title each time. Roblox supports play across PC/Mac, mobile, Xbox, and PlayStation for supported experiences, but compatibility is set experience by experience. PlayStation availability itself is country-dependent, according to the PlayStation FAQ.
- Cross-play: Available when the specific experience supports each player’s device. Check its details before organizing a session.
- Progression: Players use Roblox accounts across devices, but that does not mean every experience, feature, or item behaves identically on every platform.
- Cost: Free to start, with optional purchases. Individual experiences may have their own rules or paid content.
- Best group: Families and friends who want a menu of different activities and are willing to check compatibility before choosing one.
- Main drawback: Controls, quality, age suitability, and social features vary because experiences are made by different creators. Console may also offer fewer account-management or social functions.
On PlayStation, cross-platform play can be controlled in Settings → PlayStation Network Settings → Cross-Platform Play. Roblox’s PlayStation guidance and Xbox guidance describe platform limitations. The friend-joining instructions may also help if an invite does not appear. For children, review parental controls, chat settings, and the age rating of the particular experience rather than assuming all Roblox content is equally appropriate.
4. Fall Guys: best for casual party sessions
Fall Guys is a colorful obstacle-course game built around short, accessible rounds. It is a good pick when not everyone wants a long campaign or a high-pressure competitive session. The game supports cross-play between PC and consoles, and its mobile release extends play to supported phones.

- Cross-progression: Link the game to an Epic Games account to carry eligible progress between platforms, as described in the cross-platform progression announcement.
- Cost: Free-to-play, with optional cosmetic purchases and seasonal content.

Touch controls can be convenient for casual play, though a controller may feel more precise for jumping and steering. If a mobile player cannot join a console friend, confirm the game is installed from an official supported storefront, both clients are updated, and the correct Epic account is signed in.

Among Us is a social-deduction game in which players cooperate on tasks while trying to identify the impostor. Its short rounds and emphasis on conversation make it a strong alternative for groups that do not want a demanding action game. Before you download: check the exact device combination
“Cross-platform” can describe several different things. Cross-platform availability means a game has versions for multiple kinds of devices. Cross-play means people on different platforms can play together. Cross-progression means eligible progress or unlocks follow an account across devices; a saved game transfer alone is sometimes called cross-save. Cloud gaming streams a game from a remote server and is not the same as having a native version installed on a device.
Use this checklist before choosing:
- Write down the exact devices in your group, including platform and operating system—not just “phone” or “computer.”
- Check whether the game has a native version for each one, and whether it is available in each player’s country and store.
- Confirm the same edition and compatible game version. This is especially important for Minecraft’s Java/Bedrock split.
- Find out whether you need a publisher account, and use the same account on every device where you want eligible progression to carry over.
- Check how friends connect: an in-game friend list, console network, party invite, private lobby, or room code.
- Review platform privacy settings, parental controls, and chat permissions if anyone cannot join or communicate.
- Consider controls and performance. A game that installs may still run poorly on an older phone, and touch controls may be less comfortable in action-heavy modes.
Free-to-play does not always mean no platform requirements: console online-service rules can differ by game and platform, while a paid game such as Minecraft may have additional multiplayer conditions. Verify the rule for the particular console and mode rather than buying a subscription automatically.
If cross-play or progression is not working
- Make sure everyone installed the same game—not a similarly named spin-off or a different edition.
- Check edition compatibility and update every device to a compatible version.
- Sign out and back in to the publisher account; confirm the intended console profile is linked.
- Verify that cross-play is enabled in the game or platform settings.
- Check privacy, parental-control, and communication restrictions.
- Try joining from the friend list or through a private lobby or new world instead of relying on a direct invite.
- Check official service status and regional availability if the problem persists.
- If progress is missing, do not unlink accounts casually. Account changes can leave progress duplicated or inaccessible; consult the publisher’s account support first.
For most groups, the decision is straightforward: pick Fortnite for the broadest platform mix, Minecraft Bedrock for a persistent shared world, Roblox for variety, Fall Guys for quick party rounds, or Among Us for low-spec social deduction. In every case, verify the exact edition, device, and regional availability before gathering the group.
