For October 2–4, the five picks are East of Eden, Kill Jackie, Crazy Rich, Incredibly Broke, War, and Marshals season 2. They range from a Steinbeck adaptation and a thriller to a comedy, legal drama, and returning Western crime series. The recommendations and availability below are U.S.-oriented; streaming catalogs can differ by country.

1. East of Eden (Netflix)
This seven-episode adaptation of John Steinbeck’s novel centers on Cathy Ames, played by Florence Pugh, and the Trask family. Zoe Kazan oversees the adaptation. Its family-saga scale makes it the weekend’s longer commitment, with a complete seven-episode run for viewers who want a story to settle into.
You do not need to have read Steinbeck’s novel to follow the series. If you want to explore the source story afterward—or before watching—the novel is an optional companion.
2. Kill Jackie (Prime Video)
Catherine Zeta-Jones stars as Jackie Price, a wealthy art dealer whose life changes when an assassination group comes after her. She turns to people from her past and sets out to hunt the group. Pick this for a thriller led by an adult woman at the center of the action.

3. Crazy Rich, Incredibly Broke (Netflix)

4. War (HBO / HBO Max)
War is a legal drama about a celebrity couple’s divorce and the rival London law firms representing each side. It suits a weekend mood for courtroom maneuvering and high-stakes personal conflict rather than action-driven suspense.
