The toughest decisions in The Casting of Frank Stone are not always the most obvious dialogue prompts: a seemingly humane choice can put one character at risk, while a missed action check can matter as much as a branch. These five consequential moments cover emotional, mechanical and hard-to-predict choices. They are not an official ranking, and none alone guarantees an everyone-survives outcome.
Why these choices are difficult
The Casting of Frank Stone is a narrative horror game from Supermassive Games and Behaviour Interactive set in the Dead by Daylight universe. The official game overview describes decisions as shaping the story and affecting characters’ survival. The game is available on PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC, according to Behaviour Interactive.

“Toughest” here means a choice that is emotionally fraught, mechanically demanding, or difficult to predict—not a developer-designated ranking. Route guides show that later outcomes can depend on earlier decisions and action prompts, so treat each moment as part of a longer chain rather than a standalone switch.
1. Jaime’s confrontation with Frank: run or try to save Chris?
When Jaime faces Frank in Chapter 5, the apparent choice is between getting away and trying to help Chris. That makes the decision feel like a loyalty test, but it also puts Jaime’s immediate safety in the balance.
#1 Best Overall
- An original story about obsession, manipulation and madness, inspired by Alfred Hitchcock’s masterpiece Vertigo
- A powerful narrative experience that pays tribute to the visual and storytelling techniques of the thriller genre
- Four playable characters who each have a different story to tell
- Several timelines to explore that will allow you to overlap the events, letting you tell reality and deceptive memories apart
- Interactive dialogues which will shape relations between the characters
A survival walkthrough recommends that Jaime run and says Chris can be fine either way. That is a guide’s route advice, not proof that the choice has no consequences in every later branch. If your priority is keeping Jaime safe in this confrontation, running is the reported safer option; do not assume that it decides the whole cast’s fate.
2. Frank’s attacks: use the camera and meet the action prompts
Some of the game’s most consequential moments are not dialogue choices. Guides identify camera use and quick-time events as survival gates during encounters involving Linda, Sam, Chris and Jaime. A missed prompt can change who makes it through an encounter.
When an attack begins, pay attention to the on-screen action rather than treating the scene as a passive cutscene. Use the camera when prompted and complete the relevant action checks. These are execution tests, not a guarantee of survival across every branch; prior choices can still affect the route.
3. Chris at the Horologium: send her back to 1980?
At the Horologium, Chris’s timeline decision has consequences beyond the immediate scene. The survival walkthrough recommends sending her back to 1980 and links that route to her later appearance.

- Fully Remade to terrify modern audiences
- KONAMI's intense psychological horror masterpiece SILENT HILL 2 is made exclusively for PlayStation 5
- The main protagonist James Sunderland searches for clues in the namesake town, after receiving a mysterious letter from his wife Mary… who has long been dead
- Experience the eerie monsters and other manifestations of James' consciousness reworked after 20 years
- Made with state-of-the-art technology to play on modern entertainment systems in 4K
Choose this if you want to follow the route that preserves the possibility of seeing Chris later. It is a story tradeoff rather than a simple rescue button: the result depends on the timeline branch, so do not judge it as an isolated choice.
4. Madison’s locket: take it, wear it, or leave it?
The locket is difficult to read because an item that looks protective can also be tied to danger. Editorial walkthroughs describe Madison’s protective charm as consequential and report that wearing it can endanger her depending on what happens later. Another guide’s recommended route is to ignore the locket or let Stan take it.
There is no basis here for a universal “always take it” or “never take it” rule. If you are pursuing a particular survival route, follow the walkthrough for that full branch rather than making the locket decision in isolation; its reported effect depends on later events.
5. Linda in Chapter 14: help Madison or take the elevator?
When Madison is attacked, Linda faces a direct rescue-versus-escape decision: help Madison or head for the elevator. Guides report that going to the elevator is fatal for Linda. Helping Madison avoids that reported death route and may be necessary to keep Madison alive.

- Horror Engineering - The Callisto Protocol is a next generation take on survival horror from the mind of Glen Schofield
- Uncover the Secrets of the united Jupiter Company - Set on Jupiter’s dead moon Callisto in the year 2320
- Players will be forced to get up close and personal with their grotesque opponents, hacking off limbs, blasting off legs, and getting creative with whatever is at their disposal to survive
- Experience the Isolation of Jupiter’s Dead Moon - One of the most hostile, isolated environments in the universe
- Players must not only contend with the horrors of Black Iron Prison, but also the centuries-old secrets that plague Jupiter’s long-dead moon
If your priority is protecting both characters, choose to help Madison. The walkthrough accounts make clear that this is part of a wider route, not a guarantee that one rescue choice will save everyone.

“Save everyone” is a player goal, not an official ending label established by the publisher’s pages. Walkthroughs describe conditional routes and possible character deaths, but the available accounts do not establish a single, universally guaranteed path that saves the entire cast. Pay attention to action checks as well as dialogue and item choices, and avoid assuming that one apparently kind or brave decision is always the safest.
If you want to revisit choices or recover missed collectibles, the official overview says the Cutting Room Floor unlocks by buying the Deluxe Edition or completing the game once. Check the current edition details for your platform before buying.
For a shared playthrough, Xbox Wire reports that the game supports Twitch integration: viewers can vote on choices, with streamers having limited vetoes. That makes high-stakes decisions a group call, though the same branching outcomes still apply.
