Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsIf Microsoft Solitaire Collection will not open, crashes, gets stuck updating, or disappears from Windows 11, start with Windows Update and the Microsoft Store’s Library > Get updates command. If that does not help, repair or reset the app, clear the Store cache, reinstall Solitaire, and use DISM and SFC only when other Windows apps are also affected.
1. Install pending Windows and Microsoft Store updates
Updates can fix compatibility, installation, and launch problems. Windows 11 uses a different Settings layout from Windows 10, so follow these current paths:
- Open Start > Settings > Windows Update.
- Select Check for updates.
- If updates are available, select Install now.
- Restart the PC if Windows asks you to.
Then update Solitaire and other Store apps:
- Open Microsoft Store from Start.
- Select Library.
- Select Get updates.
Store apps normally update automatically, but Get updates starts a manual check. Microsoft’s current Microsoft Store app troubleshooting guidance recommends checking both Windows and Store updates.
If the Store will not connect
Sign in to Microsoft Store with the Microsoft account associated with the app. Also check Start > Settings > Time & language > Date & time and Start > Settings > Time & language > Language & region. Incorrect time or location settings can interfere with Microsoft Store services.

2. Repair Solitaire, then reset it
Windows 11 provides separate Repair and Reset controls for supported Store apps. Repair is the safer first attempt because it tries to fix the installation without deleting the app’s data.
- Go to Start > Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Find Microsoft Solitaire Collection.
- Select the three-dot More button beside it.
- Select Advanced options.
- Select Repair.
- Open Solitaire and test it.
If the problem remains, return to the same page and select Reset, then confirm Reset.
Important: Reset permanently deletes the app’s local data. That can remove preferences and stored sign-in details, so you may need to sign in again. Microsoft documents the difference between these controls in its guide to repairing apps and programs in Windows.

If Advanced options is missing, Windows does not expose these controls for that installation. Skip to the Store-cache or reinstall method.
3. Clear the Microsoft Store cache with wsreset.exe
A damaged Microsoft Store cache can prevent Store apps from updating or launching. The supported cache-reset command is wsreset.exe; it does not uninstall Solitaire.
- Press Windows key + R.
- Type
wsreset.exe. - Select OK.
- Wait for the blank Command Prompt window to close.
Microsoft says the blank window normally closes after about 10 seconds, and Microsoft Store then opens automatically. If it does not, open Start, search for Microsoft Store, and launch it manually. Try updating or opening Solitaire again.

Next, run:
sfc /scannow
Leave the Command Prompt window open until verification reaches 100 percent. Restart Windows and test Solitaire.
DISM repairs the Windows component store that SFC uses as a repair source. SFC checks protected system files and replaces corrupted files with cached copies when possible. If either tool says it could not repair files, follow the result-specific instructions in Microsoft’s guide to using System File Checker in Windows rather than repeatedly running the same commands.
Quick Recap
Use the Windows 11 paths, not outdated Windows 10 instructions
- Use Settings > Apps > Installed apps, not the old Apps & features label.
- Use Microsoft Store’s Library > Get updates, not the former See more > Downloads and updates menu.
- Do not rely on the old Windows Store Apps troubleshooter path from Windows 10. Microsoft’s current Windows 11 guidance prioritizes updates, Repair or Reset, cache recovery, and reinstalling.
- Remember that
wsreset.execlears the Store cache; it is not a Solitaire executable, reinstall command, or general Windows repair tool.
Which fix should you try first?
| Symptom | Best starting point |
|---|---|
| Solitaire suddenly stopped opening | Install Windows and Store updates, then try Repair. |
| The Store or Solitaire is stuck loading | Check your Store sign-in, time and region settings, then run wsreset.exe. |
| Repair does not work | Use Reset, knowing that local app data will be deleted. |
| The app remains broken after Reset | Uninstall and reinstall it from the official Microsoft Store listing. |
| Several Windows apps are failing | Run DISM followed by sfc /scannow, then restart. |
