Free PC games span competitive shooters, puzzles, strategy, role-playing adventures, horror, and quieter experiences. This shortlist is a starting point, not a verified Windows 10 compatibility list: check each game’s current official store or publisher page for Windows support, system requirements, price, and download options before installing.
How to choose a free PC game
Start with the kind of play you want. Multiplayer shooters and card games are built around competition or online play; puzzle, story, and horror games offer more focused experiences; strategy and simulation games reward planning; relaxing picks suit shorter or less intense sessions.
“Free-to-play” means a game is offered without an upfront purchase. A rotating giveaway is different: a store makes a particular game free to claim for a limited offer period, and you may need to claim it while the offer is active. Epic Games Store says it gives away a free game every week and lists free-to-play games separately; check the individual offer page for current availability and terms: Epic Games Store free games.
Free does not necessarily mean that every item or expansion is free. Some games include optional purchases or microtransactions. Check the game’s official listing for its current free model and any paid content before downloading. The following 50 candidates are grouped by play style rather than ranked; their inclusion does not establish current price, Windows 10 support, or hardware suitability.

A game’s appearance in a free-PC list is not proof that it runs on Windows 10. Confirm compatibility against the current official store or publisher listing for the exact game and version you plan to install. Pay particular attention to:

PC Gamer’s free-game and Steam guides are useful for discovery, but route through the live official game listing to confirm details: PC Gamer’s free PC games guide and PC Gamer’s free Steam games guide.
- Account and connection: Check whether the game requires a store account, publisher account, persistent internet connection, or other online service.
- Price and purchases: Confirm whether the game is free-to-play, a time-limited giveaway, a demo, or a paid game with a temporary offer—and whether optional purchases or expansions are sold separately.
- Region and edition: Availability, included content, and system requirements can differ by region or edition; use the listing applicable to your location.
