These are six strong anime-style or licensed anime games for Android, iPhone, and iPad during the 2025 editorial period. They are not an objective ranking: each is the best fit for a different player. All are generally free to download, require an internet connection for normal live-service play, receive substantial updates, and offer optional in-app purchases that may include randomised character, weapon, or equipment acquisition.

2. Honkai: Star Rail — best turn-based anime RPG

Free-to-play, spending, and online requirements
All six are generally free-to-download mobile games, but “free” does not mean cost-free. Randomised pulls, limited-time banners, duplicate systems, upgrade materials, stamina, battle passes, and premium bundles can encourage recurring spending or daily logins. No title should be labelled definitively generous or pay-to-win without current, documented economy testing.
For a lower-pressure starting point, choose between Honkai: Star Rail and Genshin Impact based on whether you prefer turn-based combat or exploration. Budget any premium currency as entertainment spending, use Android or Apple purchase restrictions where appropriate, and never rely on unofficial currency sellers or APK mirrors.
These are live-service games: normal play, account access, events, and updates should be treated as requiring an internet connection. Controller support differs by game, operating system, device, and input method, so check the exact current listing before buying a controller.
Before installing
- Check storage: installation sizes change after updates and differ between Android and iOS. Leave extra free space for decompressed files and future patches.
- Use Wi-Fi for updates: the 3D titles can involve large downloads and consume substantial cellular data.
- Check your device: older phones may suffer low frame rates, heat, battery drain, or crashes. Store listings provide the current minimum operating-system and hardware information for your region.
