GameSir G8 Galileo is the best overall Fortnite controller for most Android and USB-C iPhone players because its full-size grip, Hall Effect sticks and triggers, rear buttons, wired connection and pass-through charging prioritize aim and comfort. Choose the Backbone One 2nd Gen when portability and simple setup matter more, or reuse an Xbox Wireless Controller or DualSense with a phone clip if you already own one.
First check your phone’s connector, case, camera clearance and operating-system version. Fortnite controller support can vary by mobile build, region, platform and whether you are using the native app or cloud streaming. Native gamepad input is preferable to touch remapping.

Prices and stock change frequently. “USB-C compatible” does not guarantee that every companion-app feature works on iOS, and no controller is universal without checking the exact phone and case.
How to choose a Fortnite controller
Match the connector first
Lightning iPhones require a Lightning model. iPhone 15 and newer use USB-C, as do current Android phones. Backbone and Razer sell separate connector versions. Port location, camera-bump depth and phone length can still prevent a physical fit.

Choose wired or Bluetooth
Wired USB-C or Lightning models connect directly, avoid pairing and do not need a controller battery. They occupy the phone’s port, may draw phone power and need a compatible case; pass-through charging on supported models helps during long sessions. Bluetooth works across more devices and lets you use a controller away from the phone, but adds pairing, charging and possible interference.
Decide between telescoping and full-size
Phone-mounted controllers are balanced and portable. Full-size Xbox or PlayStation pads generally suit larger hands and long sessions but need a clip or stand and can feel top-heavy with a phone attached.
Prioritize native input
Back buttons can put jump, crouch, build or edit commands under your fingers, but they help only when Fortnite recognizes the assigned inputs and your muscle memory supports them. Touch-remapping is not equivalent to native gamepad support. Razer identifies Virtual Controller Mode as Android-only and notes that games may impose rules: Razer’s Kishi V2 documentation.
Check comfort, charging and audio
Grip width, stick spacing, trigger travel, weight with the phone installed and rear-button placement matter more than RGB or app libraries. Pass-through charging is useful, while a 3.5 mm jack is valuable when the controller occupies the phone’s USB-C port. Hall Effect sensors are designed to reduce wear-related drift risk, not guarantee drift-free operation.

The eight best controllers
1. GameSir G8 Galileo — best overall
The G8 Galileo is the strongest choice when competitive control and comfort outweigh pocketability. It has a large console-style grip, Hall Effect sticks and triggers, two rear buttons, analog triggers, a 3.5 mm jack, pass-through charging and a wired USB-C connection. 2. Backbone One 2nd Gen — best plug-and-play option
Backbone’s direct phone connection, compact layout, pass-through charging and Lightning and USB-C versions make it the easiest default for many players. The second generation adds magnetic adapters intended to support most cases. - Best for: travel, short sessions and buyers who want minimal setup.
- Watch-outs: smaller grips may tire large hands; select the correct connector. Wired mode on compatible computers or tablets is listed as requiring Backbone+.
3. Razer Kishi Ultra — best premium controller
The Kishi Ultra combines a full-size feel with L4/R4 back bumpers, Hall Effect triggers, customizable controls, 3.5 mm audio, 15 W pass-through charging and Chroma RGB. Razer lists Android 12 or later, USB-C iPhone 15/16 models and Android tablets up to 8 inches: official specifications.

- Best for: premium ergonomics and occasional tablet use.
- Watch-outs: USB-C only; Sensa HD haptics are not currently supported on iOS; Virtual Controller Mode is Android-only.
4. GameSir G8+ MFi — best full-size option for USB-C iPhone users
This Apple-certified controller offers a large grip, wired USB-C connection, Hall Effect sticks and triggers, two rear buttons, swappable ABXY and thumbsticks, a tactile D-pad, 3.5 mm audio and pass-through charging. 5. Razer Kishi V2 — best compact wired alternative
The Kishi V2 is a slim telescoping controller with separate USB-C and Lightning versions, an extendable bridge, pass-through charging and the Razer Nexus launcher. Its Android Virtual Controller Mode is not available on iPhone. Razer says the Android model can support gameplay on iPhone 15 but not Nexus on iOS: Kishi V2 details.
- Best for: a compact Backbone alternative, especially at a lower price.
- Watch-outs: avoid confusing Android, Lightning and Xbox-iPhone variants; verify case fit.
6. 8BitDo Ultimate Mobile Gaming Controller Xbox Edition — best wireless phone-mounted option
This officially licensed Xbox controller uses Bluetooth, supports Apple and Android devices and mounts the phone in a removable setup: 8BitDo’s specifications.
- Best for: wireless flexibility and an Xbox-style layout.
- Watch-outs: pairing and battery charging add friction, and a clip may be less balanced than a dedicated telescoping controller. The product page specifically highlights Xbox Cloud Gaming; do not assume identical support in every cloud or remote-play service.
7. Xbox Wireless Controller with a phone clip — best conventional Bluetooth choice
If you already own an Xbox Wireless Controller, a compatible clip can be better value than buying another pad. You get familiar full-size grips and a controller usable with Xbox and PC as well as mobile.

8. PlayStation DualSense with a phone clip — best PlayStation-owner alternative

Setup and troubleshooting
Wired setup
- Update Fortnite and the phone’s operating system.
- Remove the case if the controller maker says it may interfere.
- Connect the controller directly to the phone’s USB-C or Lightning port.
- Launch Fortnite after connecting.
- Open Fortnite Settings and locate the current controller or gamepad input section.
- Test sticks, triggers, shoulder buttons and face buttons before changing assignments.
Bluetooth setup
- Put the controller in pairing mode.
- Open the phone’s Bluetooth settings and select the controller.
- Wait for the connected status, then launch Fortnite.
- Test every input. If it fails, disconnect the controller from nearby devices and restart Fortnite.
If Fortnite does not recognize it
- Force-close and reopen Fortnite after connecting; restart the phone if necessary.
- Test another known controller-compatible game.
- Update firmware through the manufacturer’s official app.
- Confirm the controller is in the correct iOS, Android, Xbox or PlayStation mode.
- Remove the case, reconnect and disable touch-remapping or overlay software.
- Check Fortnite’s current mobile support information and contact the manufacturer if the controller fails in multiple compatible games.
If controls feel delayed
Check Bluetooth interference, battery level, phone heat, frame-rate and graphics settings, and whether you are using touch remapping. Cloud-streamed Fortnite also adds network latency; a wired controller cannot remove Wi-Fi, cellular or rendering delays.
If the phone will not fit
Recheck phone length and thickness, case thickness, camera-bump depth, USB-C port position and connector movement. Install any supplied rubber inserts or adapters correctly. Can I use an Xbox controller with Fortnite Mobile?
Yes, an Xbox Wireless Controller can be used with a compatible iPhone or Android setup when the Fortnite build and device support native gamepad input. A phone clip is required for phone-mounted play.

Do I need a wired controller?
No. Bluetooth works, but wired models avoid pairing and a separate controller battery. Wireless is preferable when you want to use the controller away from the phone.
Which controller works with iPhone 15 or newer?

Will the controller work with a phone case?

Do back buttons work in Fortnite?
They can, if Fortnite recognizes the assigned inputs natively and the controller exposes those buttons in a compatible way. App-level remapping is not guaranteed to work identically on every platform.
Is Bluetooth too slow for Fortnite?
Not necessarily. Bluetooth can be responsive, but interference, low battery and phone or game performance can add problems. Wired connection removes pairing variables but not network or rendering latency.
Can I use a controller with Fortnite cloud streaming?
Often, yes, but support depends on the streaming service and device. Native Fortnite, Xbox Cloud Gaming and console or PC remote play are separate paths with different requirements.
Why does my controller work in one game but not Fortnite?
Games expose different input support. Reconnect before launching Fortnite, update firmware, verify the correct controller mode, disable touch remapping and check the current Fortnite mobile support information.
