The best Google Snake mods depend on what you want to change: More Menu adds the broadest set of options, while other mods alter controls, visuals, board size, visibility, wall rules or score tracking. The old bookmarklet setup described in many guides is outdated; the community’s current route is to open GoogleSnakeMods.com, click Play, then choose mods from the panel in the lower-right corner. These are community-made tools, not Google features.
How to start a modded Google Snake game now
- Open GoogleSnakeMods.com.
- Click Play to launch the game.
- Open the mod panel in the lower-right corner and select the mod or mods you want.
The Mod Loader README describes the website as the easier way to use mods because they are built in. It also documents an optional userscript route for players who need to run mods through Google’s game pages: install a userscript manager (the README recommends Tampermonkey and says Greasemonkey will not work), then select the script variant for the standalone Google fbx Snake page, Google Search’s Snake game, or broader use on Google search pages. Browser extension instructions vary; the README notes that Safari’s Userscripts option requires macOS 12 or later. See the Mod Loader README for those alternatives.
Older guides may tell you to import a bookmarklet. That route is no longer reliable: the community history says bookmarklets stopped working in February 2023, before the Mod Loader launched in March 2023, and the More Menu project likewise warns that its bookmark no longer works. Use the website or the documented userscript path instead.
Which Google Snake mod should you choose?
The eight options below are drawn from Beebom’s guide, which was updated October 15, 2025. They cover different kinds of changes rather than competing on a single performance measure; the available descriptions do not establish an independent ranking or comparative test.

The eight mods, explained
1. Google Snake Menu Mod / More Menu Mod: best for broad customization
If you want more than one kind of change, start here. Beebom describes the mod as adding characters, map and background choices, speed adjustments, extra objects and the option to remove walls. The Mod Loader README also lists More Menu Mod among its featured mods. It is the most all-purpose choice in this list, though the sources do not compare it against the others in a measured test. Details appear in the Beebom guide and the Mod Loader README.
2. Mouse Mod / Mouse Mode: for mouse control
Mouse Mode changes the input method so you can control the snake with a mouse instead of relying only on the keyboard. The Mod Loader README lists Mouse Mode as a featured mod. A mouse is an optional input device, not a special hardware requirement.

3. Dark Mode Mod: for a different look
Dark Mode changes the game’s theme and offers other color schemes, according to Beebom. Choose it for a visual refresh rather than a change to the core rules or controls.
4. Change Board Size: for a different play area
This mod changes the dimensions of the board, including allowing a larger board. It is the direct option if the standard play area feels too small or you want a different spatial challenge.

5. Animated Colors: for moving visual effects
Animated Colors adds animation to the background and snake pattern, and Beebom says players can select the frame rate. Avoid this effect if you have photosensitive epilepsy or are sensitive to flashing or moving visual patterns.
6. AIYIWOWTGWL: for an invisible-snake challenge
This mod makes the snake invisible while it moves, turning navigation into a memory and timing challenge. It changes what you can see, not the stated objective of the game.

7. GoogleSnakeWall-EndgameSooner: for wall-free play
Beebom describes this mod as removing walls on every side. With the walls gone, the described way to lose is to collide with your own tail.
8. TimeKeeper Mod: for personal bests and completion times
TimeKeeper saves personal bests and the time taken to complete a game. Older instructions describe importing it through a bookmark, but that setup method is outdated because bookmarklets stopped working; use the current mod site or follow the Mod Loader’s current installation documentation instead.

What to know before using the mods
- They are community projects. GoogleSnakeMods.com identifies DarkSnakeGang as its operator and states, “We are not associated with Google.” Google is not presented as the maker or endorser of these mods. See the site’s About page.
- Mobile support is the operator’s claim. The site says it supports mobile and older versions of the game and calls itself the only way to play Google Snake Mods on mobile. That claim is from the site operator; the available sources do not provide an independent device-by-device compatibility check.
- Popularity claims are not current user counts. The site reports that the More Menu Mod bookmarklet has been downloaded over one million times, but gives no measurement date or methodology. Treat it as an undated historical statement, not a current usage figure.
- Blender mode is not one of the eight recommendations. Beebom says Blender mode is now built into Google Snake natively, rather than remaining a separate mod.
- Compatibility and comparisons are not independently established. The sources describe features but do not verify every mod against current browser versions or provide measured performance comparisons.
