Immortals of Aveum has no single universal PC-crash fix. A failed launch can come from the EA app or Steam, damaged files, the UE-P3 local data folder, DirectX 12 drivers, incorrect GPU selection, shader compilation, overlays, or unstable hardware. Work through the symptom that matches your failure, starting with the least disruptive checks.
The PC version requires Windows 10 64-bit or later, DirectX 12, 16 GB of dual-channel RAM, 70 GB of storage, and at least a GTX 1070 8 GB or Radeon RX 580 8 GB. Steam also requires an EA account. Those minimum specifications target 1080p at 30 frames per second, not guaranteed crash-free play. See the Steam requirements.
Match the symptom to the first fix
| Symptom | Start here |
|---|---|
| Nothing happens after clicking Play | Restart, clear the EA app cache, disable overlays, then repair files. |
| UE-P3 error | Rename or remove %LOCALAPPDATA%P3, clear the EA cache, and launch normally. |
| Crash during “Optimising game files” or shader compilation | Let compilation finish if it is still progressing; otherwise repair files and update the GPU driver. |
| Black screen before a crash | Force the dedicated GPU, disable overlays, and test a clean driver installation. |
| D3D12, DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVED, or driver-internal error | Return clocks to stock, clean-install the driver, and lower rendering settings. |
| Reboot, power-off, or blue screen | Stop repeated launches and investigate temperatures, power, RAM, overclocks, and Windows logs. |
Check your launcher and hardware first
The game may be started from Steam, the EA app, PC Game Pass/Xbox app, or EA Play. Steam and Game Pass still depend on EA account/app integration, so an apparent Steam problem can be an EA launcher problem. On a laptop or hybrid-graphics desktop, confirm that the game is using the discrete GPU rather than integrated Intel or AMD graphics.
Compare your PC with the listed targets
| Level | CPU | GPU | RAM | Listing target |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Minimum | Ryzen 5 2600X / Core i7-8700K | Radeon RX 580 8 GB / GTX 1070 8 GB | 16 GB dual-channel | 1080p/30fps |
| Recommended | Ryzen 7 5700X / Core i7-12700 | Radeon RX 6800 XT 16 GB / RTX 3080 Ti 12 GB | 16 GB | 1440p/60fps |
The Steam listing recommends Windows 11 for Intel 12th- and 13th-generation processors. Meeting a minimum specification does not guarantee stability, especially during shader compilation or when available VRAM is low.

1. Restart Windows and remove overlay conflicts
- Restart Windows.
- Exit Steam and the EA app completely, including their notification-area processes.
- Temporarily disable the EA in-game overlay, Steam overlay, Discord overlay, NVIDIA or AMD overlay, and Xbox Game Bar.
- Close MSI Afterburner, RivaTuner-style frame limiters, monitoring tools, injectors, and similar utilities.
- Return GPU and CPU overclocks, undervolts, custom GPU profiles, and aggressive XMP/EXPO memory settings to stock for the test.
EA says background applications can interfere with launching and recommends a clean boot when simply closing them is not enough. If the whole computer reboots or blue-screens, do not treat that as an ordinary game crash; check temperatures, power delivery, RAM stability, and Windows logs before trying again. EA’s crash and freezing guide.
2. Repair or verify the installed files
EA app
- Open Library.
- Find Immortals of Aveum and open its three-dot or Manage menu.
- Select Repair.
- Wait for the process to finish, then launch normally.
Steam
- Open Library and right-click the game.
- Choose Properties → Installed Files.
- Select Verify integrity of game files.
Verification may redownload files and does not by itself prove the game is defective. If the same files repeatedly redownload, check disk health, free space, antivirus quarantine, and folder permissions.
3. Clear the EA app cache and disable its overlay
Clear the cache
- Open the EA app menu in the upper-left corner.
- Choose Help → App Recovery → Clear Cache.
- Restart the EA app and test the game.
If the EA app will not open, use Start → All Apps → expand the EA folder → App Recovery → Clear Cache.
Disable the overlay
- Select your profile thumbnail in the EA app.
- Open Settings → Application.
- Turn off In-game overlay, then relaunch.
Cache clearing resets launcher state; it does not repair game files or resolve an EA service outage. EA documents the cache path at Clear cache and the overlay setting at EA app loading and launching help.

For an “An Unreal process has crashed: UE-P3” message, repeated startup crashes, or a failure that began after the game previously worked, an EA community-manager response recommends resetting the user-local P3 data.

- Press Win + R and enter
%LOCALAPPDATA%P3. - Rename the folder to
P3.backupfor a reversible test, or delete its contents. - Clear the EA app cache using the steps above.
- Launch the game normally—not as Administrator.
This refers to C:Users<YourUserName>AppDataLocalP3, not a P3 directory inside the installation folder. If the folder does not exist, skip this step. The forum guidance says cloud saves should preserve progress, but do not delete save folders or disable cloud synchronization without a backup. This is targeted community guidance, not a guaranteed permanent fix. Read the EA forum guidance.
5. Update Windows and clean-install the GPU driver
- Install pending Windows updates.
- Press the Windows key, type
dxdiag, open it, and check the Display tab for your GPU. - Download the current driver from the manufacturer: NVIDIA, AMD, or Intel.
- Choose the installer’s clean-install option when offered.
- Restart Windows and test before reinstalling overlays or tuning utilities.
If crashes began immediately after a particular driver update, testing the previous stable driver is a diagnostic rollback, not proof that an old driver is generally better. EA’s DirectX guidance is at Troubleshoot DirectX and Windows.
6. Force the high-performance GPU
- Open Settings → System → Display → Graphics.
- Add the game executable if it is not listed. Use the launcher’s Browse local files command rather than guessing its installation path.
- Select the game, choose Options, select High performance, and save.
- Restart the game.
On a laptop, connect AC power, select the manufacturer’s performance profile, disable battery-saving graphics modes, and test on the built-in display rather than through an unusual dock configuration. EA specifically recommends selecting the dedicated graphics processor on systems with integrated and discrete GPUs. See the EA forum graphics advice.

7. Return advanced graphics settings to a stable baseline
If the game reaches the menu but crashes while loading, compiling shaders, or entering gameplay:
- Let a normal first-launch shader compilation finish if its progress is still changing; do not repeatedly delete caches while it is working.
- Temporarily disable DLSS and Frame Generation.
- Turn off ray tracing and other hardware-intensive options.
- Lower texture quality if VRAM use is near the GPU’s limit.
- Cap the frame rate and enable V-Sync as a stability test.
- Remove launch options and third-party graphics injectors.
Some players have reported instability involving DLSS or shader compilation, and EA forum guidance advised disabling DLSS for affected systems; DLSS is not established as universally broken. Do not use -dx11 as a standard workaround: the PC listing requires DirectX 12. EA’s general guidance includes frame caps and V-Sync. EA crash troubleshooting.

8. Clean-boot Windows and collect diagnostics
Clean-boot test
- Open Start, type
msconfig, and press Enter. - Use Microsoft System Configuration to disable non-Microsoft startup services, following EA’s clean-boot instructions carefully.
- Restart and test the game.
- If it works, re-enable services in batches to identify the conflict.
A clean boot is temporary diagnosis; do not permanently disable essential security or hardware services. Follow EA’s clean-boot procedure.
Repair Windows components
As an advanced test, open Command Prompt as Administrator, run sfc /scannow, wait for completion, restart, and test again. If Windows reports that files could not be repaired, use Microsoft’s current DISM and SFC recovery instructions rather than downloading replacement DLLs.
Prepare a useful support report
- Press the Windows key, type
dxdiag, open the 64-bit tool, and choose Save All Information. - Record the launcher, Windows version, CPU, GPU, RAM, GPU driver version, exact error text, and whether the crash occurs before or after shader compilation.
- Note whether other demanding games crash and whether the PC itself reboots.
- Attach the DxDiag text file and any EA Error Reporter ID to an EA support case.
DxDiag reports CPU, RAM, GPU, driver, DirectX, and limited error information. EA’s DxDiag instructions and Immortals of Aveum support hub provide the relevant escalation links.
When the problem is probably hardware
A D3D12 device-removed error can result from a driver, unstable overclock, excessive temperature, insufficient power, or failing hardware. Return the system to stock settings, check GPU and hotspot temperatures, verify power-supply cabling and capacity, test RAM without XMP/EXPO, and run another demanding DirectX 12 game or benchmark. If several games fail—or the PC reboots or blue-screens—investigate the system rather than repeatedly reinstalling Immortals of Aveum.
Do not permanently disable security software, use compatibility mode, run the game as Administrator by default, download random DLLs, or delete installation folders for a UE-P3 error. If all eight fixes fail, preserve cloud-synced saves, document the diagnostics, and only then consider reinstalling the EA app or game.
