Artstorm, the developer of Modern Warships, acknowledged that the game’s RF Bartini A-2000-7 used concept artist Alex Jay Brady’s 2014 ekranoplan design as a reference without proper clearance. Brady said they had not authorized the use. Separately, reporting put the vehicle’s estimated acquisition cost at $50–$100 through gacha spins or up to $700 outright—not a verified current fixed price. Kotaku reported the dispute and cost estimate; Plagiarism Today identified the in-game vehicle.
Did Modern Warships copy an artist’s ship design?
The dispute concerns a speculative ekranoplan concept Brady created in 2014. Ekranoplans are ground-effect craft that combine characteristics of surface and air vehicles. Brady told IGN, as quoted by Kotaku, that the in-game design was “the same, with a few minor differences.” The vehicle is identified in coverage as the RF Bartini A-2000-7.
Brady also criticized features of the fictional craft, saying “the engines wash across the deck, the planes take off backward, not into the wind.” Those are Brady’s judgments about the design; the reporting does not independently assess how the in-game vehicle would function.
Did the artist give permission, and what did Artstorm say?
Brady said they had not given Modern Warships permission to use the concept. Artstorm responded publicly: “Fair call, and apologies from us. Your design was used as a reference without proper clearance. We’ll contact you directly to make this right.” The statement acknowledges use as a reference without proper clearance and says the developer planned to contact Brady.

- Used Book in Good Condition
That acknowledgment is not a legal finding of infringement. The reports do not establish whether Brady and Artstorm later reached an agreement, whether compensation was accepted, or whether the vehicle was changed or removed.
How much was the ekranoplan reported to cost in Modern Warships?
Kotaku reported IGN’s estimate that acquiring the vehicle could cost between $50 and $100 through gacha spins, or as much as $700 to buy outright. These are reported estimates, not a confirmed current price, a guarantee of what any player would spend, or evidence that every acquisition route costs the same amount.
