Not yet. Resident Evil executive producer Jun Takeuchi has said Capcom is thinking about how the remake line might eventually meet the numbered games’ ongoing story, but that is not confirmation of Resident Evil 5 or Resident Evil 6 remakes. What Takeuchi’s comments say about the remake line
Takeuchi described Resident Evil as developing along two tracks: numbered games continue the series’ ongoing story, while remakes let players revisit its past. He also said Capcom is considering what to do when the remake line reaches the era covered by the numbered titles. GamesRadar likewise described Capcom as preparing for a possible eventual intersection, citing references to Umbrella and Spencer and Raccoon City’s return in Resident Evil Requiem. Its translation renders the point as: “Eventually, the remake series will catch up to the era of the numbered titles, and the mechanisms for that are already being considered.” The wording differs slightly between reports, so neither should be treated as a verified official English transcript. Why this does not confirm Resident Evil 5 or 6 remakes
The reports connect the prospect of the remake timeline reaching the numbered-game era with the obvious future candidates, Resident Evil 5 and Resident Evil 6. But Takeuchi’s reported comments do not name either game as an active project, and GamesRadar explicitly cautions that they are not confirmation of remakes. Any proposed order, schedule, or release window for hypothetical RE5 and RE6 remakes is speculation.

The Resident Evil remake Capcom has announced
Capcom announced a remake of the 2000 game Resident Evil Code: Veronica on June 8, 2026. The company says it will feature a reimagined story and RE ENGINE graphics, and has scheduled it for 2027 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC. That is a confirmed remake, unlike the unannounced RE5 and RE6 projects fans may infer from Takeuchi’s comments.
Other recent Resident Evil releases are ports, not new remakes
Capcom has also announced Nintendo Switch 2 releases of Resident Evil 2 Deluxe Edition, Resident Evil 3, and Resident Evil 4 Gold Edition. Their digital release date is October 16, 2026, and the physical release date is January 29, 2027. These are platform releases for existing remake titles; they do not signal development of RE5 or RE6 remakes. What to play while waiting for an announcement
If you want to play either game now, look for the existing Resident Evil 5 or Resident Evil 6, not a remake. Verify platform, edition, format, region, availability, and price with the retailer before buying; Capcom’s series lineup confirms the games exist, not current retailer stock or listing details.
