Warhorse Studios co-founder Martin Klima hopes Grand Theft Auto VI will make an $80 standard price easier for other studios to adopt. That is a hope, not evidence that players have accepted $80 as the new standard or that publishers plan to follow suit.
What did Martin Klima say about GTA VI’s price?
In an interview reported by PC Gamer on October 1, 2026, Klima said he hopes Rockstar’s game will “blaze the trail” for higher prices. He argued that raising the unit price could help studios as development costs rise, while opportunities to grow audiences or earn more through digital sales are constrained. That is Klima’s explanation; the report does not independently establish it as an industry-wide finding.
His remarks do not announce a pricing policy from Warhorse or a coordinated plan by publishers. They express the hope that a high-profile release could make other studios less hesitant to charge more.
How much are the reported GTA VI editions?
Reports give two different US prices depending on edition. PC Gamer said Take-Two confirmed a price of $80 in June; SavePoint Gaming’s October 6, 2026 report lists the standard edition at $79.99 and the Ultimate Edition at $99.99.

These are reported US prices, not a guarantee of the price in other countries or storefronts. The reported launch platforms are PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, according to SavePoint Gaming.
Does the reporting show that players will accept $80 games?
No. A publisher’s price announcement and an executive’s confidence in a game’s value do not establish broad consumer willingness to pay that amount. Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick said the company’s goal is to deliver “way more value to consumers than what we charge them,” and described the game as an “incredible bargain,” as reported by GameSpot on August 7, 2026. That is Take-Two’s view of its pricing, not an independent assessment of value or evidence of market acceptance.

The available reporting does not show that they will. Klima hopes GTA VI can make price increases more acceptable to studios, but a precedent among publishers depends on their own decisions and on how consumers respond. Neither the reported GTA VI prices nor the statements from Klima and Zelnick establish that $80 will become the market norm.
